File cannot be opened because it was saved in a newer version. It wasn't.

Getting the error pop up saying my project file can't be opened because it was saved in a newer version of Premiere. It wasn't saved in a newer version as that's literally impossible. I'm using the latest version of Premiere. Have never used betas. I worked on this project file last week and it hasn't left my onboard hard drive.

Premiere Pro 25.6.3

MacBook Pro 2020 M1 MacOS Tahoe 26.1

I've been getting a lot of issues across all my adobe applications (photoshop, lightroom classic, after effects) since updating my MacOS. Media Encoder also seems to be a lot slower to render footage that I've worked with before

Sorry about that. There was a bug in Premiere Pro 25.6 that would update your project format. Now if you're on 25.6.3 where that has been corrected, it won't be able to open that project.

We've written a little downgrader tool that can take your unintentionally upgraded project and restore it so it'll work in the current versions of Premiere Pro (like 25.6.3). You can get it here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/p-premiere-projects-saved-in-v25-6-0-cannot-be-opened-in-other-v25-x-versions/idi-p/15589164
