Import bug in Premiere (Captions)

There seems to be a bug in Premiere 2024 (latest update) where when I import a .scc file originally created in Telestream Caption Maker, and have music symbols around lyrics of a concert, a lot of the closing music note symbols around lyrics are not there, causing me to have to replace them.  They are in the original caption and .scc files before importing into Premiere.  Very time consuming and irratating to have to replace these!  This has happened on two separate concerts I have captioned in Premiere.

Thanks-

@SCOTT_L this should be resolved in the latest 26.2 beta. If you have a chance, give it a try and let us know if you still experience any issues with importing musical notes.

hi Jamie, just curious if you know any status updates on getting this nasty little bug squashed!

Thanks and all the best-

Scott

@jamieclarke,

> If you see this issue in Premiere can you add very specific reproducible steps and with your settings please, so that we can investigate.

I am Win 10; I have confirmed this in 24.5.0, 23.6.7, 25.0.0, and Beta 25.2.0.90.

Steps to replicate:

Create a 608 captions track in PR.

Add 2 or more captions. Have at least 1 that is one line and 1 that is two lines.

At the end of one or more one line captions add an eighth note (Alt 13).

And add the same at the end of the second line of one or more captions.

Export as .scc. If you examine the file (I used both Subtitle Edit and Telestream), you will see that all the music notes are there.

Import the .scc back to PR.

Every one of the line one music notes are missing.

All of the line two music notges are present.

Using a Subtitle track instead of 608, and exporting and importing SRT, does NOT show this problem.

Reporting this bug again after 1 + year of frustration!!!

Update:  Still there in Premiere Pro 2025.1.0  Build 73.

There is still a problem in Premiere Pro 2024 v24.2.0 Build 93.

See Below... This should be a relatively EASY fix  😞

I have reported this bug in a couple of previous versions!

When importing a .scc file, especially one that has musical notes wrapping lines being sung in a caption file, Premiere is truncating the ending musical note at the end of caption line that are only one line of text.  THIS IS FRUSTRATING as I have to go in and manually add these back in, on a line by line basis, and when you have 400 plus lines, IT IS VERY TIME CONSUMING and should not have to be done.

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP.  Other users (pros in this forum) have confirmed this.

I can send files for Adobe to test with.  Have several if needed.

(Contact me for Sample files as your file uploader doesn't support .scc)

SYSTEM:

Win 10 Pro

128 GB Ram

AMD Threadripper 64 cores

AMD Graphics Card - Radeon RX 6800

Thanks-

Scott

Hi @SCOTT_L - Did you ever contact telestream?  This seems to be an issue on their end that they are not properly encoding their files.

While Adobe might be able to explore a workaround to address this issue in Premiere, it would likely be more effective to focus on resolving the root cause of the problem.

It is not a Telestream issue, it is an Adobe problem.    This was confirmed by Stan Jones back in August of 2024. (see above in thread).

Here's his confirmation of issue:

" I see that neither Scott nor I provided some of the basic info. But it was in an early version of 24 in Dec 2023. I have retested in 24.5.0 and 23.6.7. This appears to me to be a very specific and easy replicated BUG.

In an scc file imported to PR as 608 captions, a music note (classic eighth note - i.e. entered as Alt 1 3) at THE END of the first line, is not imported. It is imported at the beginning of a line and at the end of a second line. A character after the music note at the end of the first line is imported, but not the music note.

If you add such notes in PR and export .SCC, the notes are properly exported.

The original .scc file was Scott's from Telestream, but my test now is from captions created in PR, exported, and reimported.

Using Subtitles, exporting and importing SRT, does NOT show this problem.

Win 10, 24.5.0 and 23.6.7.

Stan "

Did it just fall on deaf ears since Telestream was mentioned in the report, laying blame on them?

Again, it is very frustrating to have to correct this when one has over 1200 captions in a 90+ minute show!

Thanks and hope this gets the attention it deserves after 1 year + of asking!

Well, It's been almost a year now that this was reported and verified as a bug and there has still been NO FIX from Adobe.  Is this how bug requests normally go?  VERY frustrating!

@Kerstin Ebert @Alexander_DVA

Can you see that this gets attention? To clarify, the bug can be demonstrated by exporting .scc from PR and reimporting. It does not require a Telestream .scc.

Kevin, I believe I filed a bug report back in Dec 2023.  I have updated Premiere several times but nothing has improved.  This is a very frustrating bug as most of the shows I deal with are 90-120 minute concerts with as many as 1000 lines of captions.  You can imagine how long it takes to correct these!  It does appear that it is happening on single line captions...  let me know what you guys need from me to help squash this bug!  If you could confirm Adobe received my fisrt report, that would be awesome.  If not received, I will go back thru the process.  Don't see a file uplink option here, only for video or photo but happy to provide a .scc file!
