Instant Crash when starting new project

Hey everyone -

I've been using Adobe for years but this past year i've had an issue with PP that just won't go away! Basically, any time I go to start a new project, the program crashes. No matter what. I've tried -

1. Resetting preferences (hold down shift, clear cache/reset to default/every option)

2. Reinstalling Premiere Pro

3. Reinstalling Adobe CC

4. Lots of PC restarts.

5. Updating GPU drivers

6. Updating CPU drivers

I've seen some people suggest turning off hardware accelaration, but I don't think that's a "fix" because i'm working with 1 hour long video files with LUTs and what have you, so I really need that hardware accelaration.

My setup:

m.2 SSD for scratch drive

Ryzen 5800x

Nvidia  4070ti

32gb RAM DDR4

My current workaround is to open an existing project from a saved folder, and then delete everything on it, and start working from there, but it's a real pain because I would like to be able to make a new project from scratch so I can set all the preferences up the way I want them initially instead of having to change everything on an existing project.

I've attached a video showing how quickly it crashes.

What else can I try that i'm not thinking of?

One other thing to try other than unplugging the drive would be to move some files out of the top directory. When you open the drive in import mode it will try to render thumbnails for all the files at the top level - if one of them is particularely broken, it could cause the unplanned rapid program termination that you saw. If you can pinpoint that file it would be very interesting for us to inspect, so we can make sure we are able to deal with the problem more gracefully.

Best regards,
Alexander

Thanks, Alexander. So the H drive is my scratch drive, which is an m.2...I suppose I could unplug it. Is there anyway to manually change what shows up on the import page? It does load up okay if i open an existing project fine, just making a new project causes the crash.

Thank you for reporting this issue!

From your video it looks like the import page is trying to load the content of your drive "H" - can you try to disconnect this drive just to rule out that something is going very wrong when trying to read from it? That would also explain why re-installing did not have an effect either - btw does it work if you open an existing project file directly? This would bypass the import screen.

Best regards,
