Lag while switching between application window and other windows on MacOS

On macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, Premiere Pro 26.3.2 pauses for around one second every time it regains focus after switching to another app or window. The macOS spinning beachball appears, then Premiere works normally. This also occurs in the Project Browser without an active project. Hardware: 14-inch MacBook Pro, M3 Pro.

Does it affect new, empty projects?
Does it affect all projects or only some?
When did the problem first begin?
- Does this issue occur with other versions of Premiere? If so, please specify the exact versions.
Is the storage on your system or any connected hard drives near full capacity?
The team noticed that Premiere Beta and Media Encoder Beta are updating in the background. Does the lag problem persist after those updates complete?
Does resetting preferences and disabling 3rd Party Plug-ins improve performance?

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for taking a look so fast. Here is some more information:

Yes, it effects new, empty projects.
It affects all projects, and even when no projects are open and I'm on the Project Browser.
The problem first began a week or so ago - I am unsure if this happened after the update to the latest version of Premiere as by default the app was set to auto update.
The storage is not at full capacity, it is around 70% full.
I can confirm that the lag problem persists after all apps and Creative Cloud were updated - I thought the problem would not occur in Premiere Pro Beta, but the same behaviour is observed.
I had reset the preferences, cleared the cache, and tried a run with 3rd Party Plug-ins disabled, and after a system restart, but the problem persists.

I did another screen recording with the activity monitor open so you can see the brief CPU spike when this happens: here.
Some additional info, the only other active 3rd party plug in was Captioneer. But I have seen the problem persist when this plugin was disabled as well as when workspaces were changed.
