masks don't work Premier Pro

Hi, I have the latest updated version of Adobe Premiere Pro and I’ve run into a problem. The keyframes for the Mask tool don’t work at all. The AI Mask tool also doesn’t work and seems to have broken the entire masking functionality. I can’t even create a simple hand-animated mask.

Because of this, I’m unable to animate mask movement, which is seriously slowing down my workflow.

What could be causing this issue, and how can I fix it?

I just had the same head scratching experience.  Do read the documents linked in the thread, but just FYI - how the masks behave depends on the Clip/Frame buttons at the bottom left of the Program window, next to the zoom view dropdown.  When in Frame mode the mask animates via the Transform parameters in the Mask layer, NOT in the Path track like before.  I can’t figure out why they even have a stopwatch on the Path track since it seemingly does nothing.

Ann’s comments are spot-on. READ those documents! It is very different, yes. It is far more powerful too. But you will not ‘get it’ without reading the documents.

When you want to animate a mask manually the mask needs to be in FRAME mode and not clip mode.

Please read the Help to understand how this new feature works.
