Media Encoder does not include 608 and 708 closed captions on export

I export a sequence from Premiere to Media Encoder and it drops channel of the 608 and 708 closed captions. Rendering the sequence out of Premiere works fine. Our workflow consists of one sequence with multiple segments, and Media Encoder is a more efficient way of exporting. However ever since the rewrite of Premiere the link between the 2 apps is broken, and has been for over 5 years now. Can you guys get this fixed please?

I have not tested this for a bit. I am Win 11 and tested on PR 26.5.2. I you are doing something different than my test, let us know and I’ll check your workflow. Specifically, if you mean that the specified channel for each is being dropped (i.e. Channel 1 used instead of channel 2), let me know.

I created a simple timeline and created 608 and 708 captions tracks. I exported to mxf op1a and set to embed. PR correctly shows both tracks. I exported, then repeated and queued to AME. I checked the settings there, and they were correct. I exported.

Both exports play back with both caption tracks available. To test, I used Switch 5.4.1. The free version uses dummy text, but shows the timing and presence of the tracks.

I also tested by importing back to PR with preferences to import captions: Edit → Preferneces → Media → Include captions on import. Sequences created from the imports show both tracks.

    Hello @Joe Stern

Welcome to the Premiere Forums. While I look into this could you provide a little more information to help us log this issue?

    • Premiere and AME Version: The version of Premiere and Media Encoder should match, but please check the exact version of both separately.
    • Operating System: Specify Windows or macOS, along with the version.
    • Chip (Mac Only): Specify which M-series Chip or CPU/GPU combo.
    • GPU and Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card and driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.

By Dropping the Channel, do you mean it is no longer visibly burning those caption types into the image or are you wanting it as a metadata channel? Could you let us know your exact export specs?

    Hoping to help,

    Amy
