Product

Premiere 26.0.0

Operating System

macOS Sequoia 15.7.3

Hardware

Mac Studio (M2 Ultra)

Problem Description

When using Object Mask and assigning it to Opacity in an interlaced sequence, the Program Monitor turns black.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch Premiere Pro 26.0.0

  2. Create a new project

  3. Create a sequence with interlaced field settings (Upper Field First or Lower Field First)

  4. Add a clip to the timeline

  5. Apply Object Mask

  6. Assign the Object Mask to Opacity

Expected Result

The Program Monitor should display the image correctly when Object Mask is applied to Opacity, regardless of whether the sequence is progressive or interlaced.

Actual Result

  • The Program Monitor becomes completely black

  • Setting Sequence Settings → Fields to No Fields (Progressive) resolves the issue

  • When Display First Field is enabled in the Program Monitor, playback is visible, but the image turns black when playback is stopped

  • When the sequence is set to Upper Field First, the image appears correctly after rendering, but not consistently during playback or pause

Additional Information

Object Mask appears to behave correctly only in progressive sequences.
Please confirm whether Object Mask supports interlaced sequences, or if this behavior is a bug in Premiere Pro 26.0.0.

Frequency

Always / 100% reproducible

@dm_Bezzeg4186 @JX_SL @47550491 Can you please try resetting preferences and deleting media cache?

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:

Dear Adobe Support Team,

I am reporting a critical and fully reproducible issue in the latest Adobe Premiere Pro v26 release. To be absolutely clear: this occurs in the stable, non-BETA version.

System configuration:

  • Operating System: Windows 11

  • GPU: ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4070 Ti

  • RAM: 64 GB DDR5

  • System: high-end, up-to-date hardware configuration

  • NVIDIA GPU driver: latest official release

Issue description:

  • The automatic object-based masking / rotoscoping itself works correctly.

  • The object is properly detected and tracked.

  • However, the moment I adjust anything on the masked clip (e.g. apply an effect, color correction, opacity change, transform, etc.),
the Program Monitor immediately turns completely black.

  • The image only reappears after rendering, making real-time editing effectively impossible.

Important note:
The exact same workflow works flawlessly in the Premiere Pro BETA version on the same machine and software environment. This strongly indicates a regression bug in the v26 stable release, not a hardware or performance limitation.

This issue is:

  • not related to system performance,

  • not related to GPU compatibility,

  • but clearly a software bug affecting the stable release.

My questions:

  • Is this issue already known to Adobe?

  • Is there an official fix planned for this behavior?

  • Is a hotfix or near-term update expected to restore proper Object Mask Tool functionality in the v26 stable version?

In its current state, one of the flagship features of Premiere Pro is only usable in the BETA build, which is not acceptable for professional production workflows.

I would appreciate a concrete response regarding the status of this issue and the expected timeline for a fix.

Kind regards,
Ádám

Not seeing this on my machine.

Did you try trashing prefs and media cache?
