Order of Sequences Panels changes when switching workspaces

This is one thing that bugs me for many versions of premiere now.

There are multiple possible situations that will change, close or even open random sequences:

  • closing and opening a project
  • resetting or changing workspaces

Source sequences are not saved at all when closing a project.

The problem with that is when working between multiple sequences, every time I reopen the project, I need to go through the process of opening all that sequences.
Premiere should save them, their state (source sequence) and their order when closed.
Moving panels is saved when I close the program, so why are sequences not in a reliable way?

I dont switch my workspace often but i do have the issue where every time i close a project, when i open it at a later date the sequences that were on the timeline are then gone and been put back in the library/bin. One sequence is always open and its always some random nested one that i dont need and definitely was not open previously. So frustrating to have to dig them out again when my library is busy

This is my nightmare too, i keep opening and closing and re-positioning the panels all the time, almost every single project i open i keep doing this.

I am with two monitors and Windows 10 and Premiere 2026.2

With the panels I don’t have this problem luckily. There’s only one situation where I have to do it: When I go to the export area, the panels on the second screen will not longer show up. Usually this changes back, once I go back to the editing area but when sending to Media Encoder, it stays that way and I have to reset the workspace to get back to my layout.

I have same issue, i really hate it when I forced to reset the workspace just to have the UI on the 2nd monitor back.

    Hi @athletic_fact6385
I can see what you mean about the sequence panels changing positions when you change your workspaces. Could you let me know if you're using multiple displays in your setup? If so, you can also try undocking the sequence panel you are focused on; it will remain open even when switching Workspaces.
I do understand the issue, though, and I want to have all your tools be right back where they were when you left them.  Maybe you can help me with a few more details so I can look into this issue and get some traction.

It would help us if you could use the link " How to Report a Problem," which provides steps to provide more information that can help us identify the issue.

    Here to help.

I have no problem with “ sequence panels changing positions”. The panels position work as expected. This is about the sequence tabs and how they are ordered.

I’ve added a video file that shows my problem.

I start with a sequence and a source sequence.
When switching workspaces, the source sequence is closed (still open in the source monitor but gone es a source sequence in the timeline).
When I switch back, still no source sequence but now a total random sequence is open that I didn’t open in the first place.

What I expect to happen is, that switching the workspace won’t mess with the sequences that I’ve opened and especially not that random sequences will open.

Yes, I know this setting. It’s always checked, doesn’t change how unreliable it works. Sometimes some sequences get restored (when I only open one or two) but most the time and when working with more they will not be restored.

Furthermore, when switching or restoring workspaces, it always has been pretty common for me that sequences will get messed up and source sequences won’t get stored at all (in their current state being a source sequence).

With “messed up” I also talk about the order and in which timeline window they are (when working with pancake editing technique)
