P: Audio Playback Error 1609891835 After Downgrading Project

Down-grading a full program version is not a light-weight thing to do in any of the major video post apps. I don’t know why you specifically needed to revert a version, but there are several very legitimate reasons for needing to do so that I know of for specific situations.

Personally, even with a couple of the auto-downgrade options out there … I’ve had best results for the time spent by doing the old create a new project in the previous version, go to the old Import panel tab, and navigate to the newer version project file, and individually import sequences. It’s been awhile since I’ve tested this but that was my best result.

Months later and no resolution. I ended up deleting my project and starting a whole new one. It seemed to work. Shouldn’t have to do that. And no help from Adobe.

I’m picking up this thread to see if we can’t find some solutions.

Please let me know if you’re still having this issue, and if so we need your current specs.

• Premiere Version: What Premiere you're using and what exact version you downgraded from.
• Operating System: Specify Windows or macOS, along with the version.
• Chip (Mac Only): Specify which M series chip you have. If intel, include GPU.
• GPU and Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card and driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.

Additional troubleshooting for this problem.

1. Create a New Project in the version you want to work in. Import the same files. Does this problem persist?
2. Navigate to where you have your Audio Previews Stored and remove them. Check this in your Scratch Disks settings for the project.

Hi guys, 

I upgraded to premiere pro 26 at one point (without knowing). Then after a couple of days I did not like the update and premiere was crashing so I downgraded the project file to 2025 using Keka on mac. I compressed the file (zip or gzip) then I extracted and edited the text document file (changed version no.45 to no.1) then I opened it in 2025. it said the new masking issue. Then I continued to work in 25 but then when I press play, it shows an error (attached below).  video also does not playback. This is such a horrible bottleneck. 

I have started using the file in 2026 now. it does not say masking issue. But it still shows the error and does not playback. How do I solve this? I uninstalled and re-installed premiere , removed preferences, still the issue persists.
