P: Moving items in timeline sluggish in 25.4, behavior is new and repeatable

I have been holding back for a while sticking with a very stable 25.2. I've logged a handful of bugs and issues since updating to 25.4, but this one is probably the big one because I needed more hands on time to really identify if it was just circumstantial or a real problem.

Plain and simple, something is wrong with the timeline in 25.4. To be more clear, when you select lots of items in the timeline and try to move them, the movement is sluggish. This was not the case in 25.2 and I suspect it has something to do with the way that the new 25.4 timeline tries to keep everything moving smoothly when trimming (which is nice by the way).

At first I was testing this on a sequence that had a ton of single word captions, which would have been a bit sluggish to select all track forward and move even in 25.2. It was worse in 25.4, noticeably so, but I didn't think too much of it.

I've since moved onto a project with far fewer cuts and segments on my timeline and no captions, and I'm still seeing the same behavior when selecting all clips forward. To test this, I tried selecting everything in my timeline from the front, and in the attached video you can clearly see the timeline objects moving choppy behind my mouse and then having a delay when landing, compared to what it should be like when I try the same operation at the back of my timeline.

There's also a reddit thread I posted on the other day where another user was asking about this and several commenters jumped in with their shared experience on 25.4, so I know this is something new to 25.4.

To be fair, I know if I have a massive timeline with tons of single caption segments it might not be reasonable to expect selecting and moving everything at once to be smooth, but I'm working on a single video track multicam podcast right now with four tracks of audio, there's no reason I should be seeing the kind of slow down that I'm currently experiencing.

Occurs on both of my workstations, both OSX 13.7.8:

Macbook Pro M1 Max

64gb RAM

Mac Studio M1 Ultra

128gb RAM

Hello Haidar. Are you seeing the thread above. We're needing to use the Beta version until a fix is made. They seem to be working on it.

With the latest Premiere 25.5 the tool "Track Select Forward Tool" is lagging when dragging a lot of clips on the right, it become very slow and lagging and difficult to see where the dragged clips will land.

Hi everyone! Hope you’re doing well. In the latest Beta Build (81) we’ve added a fix for the lag issue when dragging clips. Thanks for raising this and helping us track it down. We’re continuing to make improvements, so keep an eye on upcoming Beta builds for more performance gains when moving clips. You can check how many clips you have in your timeline by using the new Sequence Index. Let us know how it feels on your end and what you find.

Thank you again for all the help and posts.

Hello everyone! This is Adolfo from Adobe. I wanted to share an update: the Premiere Pro team is actively working on this, and it’s a top priority for us. Some changes are already live in Beta, and more improvements will be rolling out in the coming days. I’ll keep this thread updated so you can try them out in Beta as they land.

Thank you all for sharing your feedback and details
