P: No clip outline, snap function, or playhead visible when dragging clips in timeline

Premiere Version : 25.6.2

I noticed this issue in a previous beta version as well. But with the latest update, the snap function doesn't seem to work. The snap button is on. Also while dragging clips to the timeline, the clip body is invisible.

Are there any plans to backport this fix into the v25 LTS release when it's available?

By @RECXFX

Historically, that doesn't happen.

o arquivo na linha do tempo quando clica com o mouse e segura para movimenta-la uniformemente, pois ela está se movimentando por tempo, isso acontece nessa versão 25.6.2, tive que voltar pra versão 25 para voltar ao normal.

Hi @jose carlos_junior2822

Sorry you've been experiencing issues. We need a few more details to help, like hardware information and type of media you are using. Please see How to Report a Problem. You are not seeing the clip outline when dragging, correct?

Is this happening with all clips (audio and/or video) and projects, or only this specific audio clip? What kind of media are you working with? Are you using any nests?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani

Hi everyone,

A fix for this has been implemented as of Premiere Pro Beta version 26.1.0 Build 9 and later, if you would like to test it out. Thread will be updated once it's in the main release.

Since updating to Premiere Pro 25.6.2 (Build 1), clips on the timeline become completely invisible whenever I drag/move them. They reappear the moment I let go of the mouse. This makes accurate editing extremely difficult because I cannot see where clips are being placed or if they’re overlapping.

This happens with any media (H.264, HEVC, ProRes).
Trimming and resizing behave normally — only dragging causes invisibility.

System

  • Windows 11

  • NVIDIA RTX 4070

  • Driver version: (insert yours)

  • Premiere Pro 25.6.2 (Build 1)

  • Display scaling: (insert your scaling, e.g. 100% / 125%)

  • Renderer option “Mercury Playback Engine – Software Only” is greyed out, locked to GPU.

Troubleshooting attempted

  • Reset preferences

  • Disabled Composite Preview During Trim

  • Disabled hardware accelerated decoding

  • Cleared cache + GPU detection files

  • Reinstalled Premiere

  • Tested new/empty projects

  • Tested multiple media formats

  • Updated NVIDIA drivers (Studio + Game Ready)

  • Issue does not occur on Premiere 25.5

Hi @catm6817491

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and sorry you've been experiencing issues.

Under Preferences > General, do you have 'GPU accelerated UI rendering' disabled? Do you continue seeing this issue if you enable it and restart Premiere Pro?

Sorry for the frustration,

Dani

Thank you for the information @RECXFX. Did you have 'GPU Accelerated UI Rendering' disabled when you originally reset preferences as well?

Hi Premiere Pro users and gurus 🙂

When I click on a clip in the timeline and drag it, I cannot see it while dragging. It becomes invisible. As such, it is impossible to see where it's going to land when you drop it. It's impossible to line it up with other clips. It's impossible to edit.

I will attach a video screen recording illustrating the issue.

This started happening after the latest update of Premiere Pro. I did not change anything in my system. I did not install any plugins or change any hardware or anything like that. I have the latest, absolute latest versions of my video card (NVIDIA) drivers,.

I think this is a Premiere Pro Bug. I am posting here looking for possible solutions but also because support usually insists upon it before agreeing to talk to me about any issue.

Truth is, I have tried what there is to try, but hey, maybe someone has an idea that I haven't tried yet, its not impossible.

Multiple people have reported this issue on Reddit in the last week:
https://www.reddit.com/r/premiere/comments/1p8qgmy/cant_see_where_i_place_clips_in_timeline/

And here are my specs:

  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700, 2100 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 20 Logical Processor(s)

  • Graphics card including driver version: NNVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090

  • Driver Version 32.0.15.7260

  • RAM: 32.0 GB

  • Type of storage (i.e. SSD, HDD) that your media is stored on: I tried both SSD & HDD, it makes no difference

  • Operating System Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version10.0.19045 Build 19045

  • The type of media you are working with: Image files (jpg, png) and Video files (mp4, mov)

  • What camera did it come from? From various smartphones, Android and iPhone

    • The file type is irrelevant, it happens to all file types, it was all working fine till very recently.

  • Is it a screen recording/software generated video? No

  • What are your sequence settings?

    • 1440x1800, 1440x2560, 1080x1920. 30fps, Apple ProRes 422 Preview. Its irrelevant, happens in all settings.

  • If this is a problem exporting, what are your export settings? No

  • What steps you have tried already to solve the issue - be as detailed as you can

    • Restarting premiere

    • Restarting the computer

    • Open another project

    • Open an already existing project

    • Deleting all media caches

    • Downgrading. When I go to version 2024 then it as expected works again, but that is hardly a solution if you consider that all my files that I need to work with are from newer versions of Premiere. I know 'downgrade  your file' websites exist, but working like this is such a giant hassle and takes up so much time sorting through little issues as you switch between Premiere versions constantly that it is not tenable as a solution, only as a very temporary and painful workaround till a proper solution is found..

Thanks for taking the time to read about my issue.

Ok the issue comes back again when I disable GPU Accelerated UI Rendering.

So in short, the Snap Icon and the Clip body (while draggin to timeline) are not visible when GPU Accelerated UI Rendering is disabled. Is it possible to fix this? I don't think GPU Accelerated UI Rendering is needed at all times, it slows the UI down.

OS : Windows 10
GPU : RTX 4080 / Driver 580.81
