P: Option + Arrow Keys Not Working

On MacOS, you can normally navigate through text one word at a time by holding option and pressing the left and right arrow keys. This functionality is broken in the latest version of Premiere Pro (25.4). It still works fine in all other apps, and it worked in all previous versions of PP, so this is definitely an issue with the latest version of PP.

For example, when editing the name of a sequence, I can't jump between words by holding option and pressing the left and right arrow keys.

Edit 1: This only seems to affect the Project panel and bins. I can use Option + Arrow keys in other areas of PP, such as transcripts in the Text panel.

I work with tons of different versions of sequences and really relied on this to rename or navigate to portions of the names. It’s infuriating – can you please give an update about a fix for this?

Any updates to this? This is a very frustrating issue.

@Wave Digital Arts,

I'm Win 11 and this appears to be working for me in 25.6.1 and Beta 26.0.0.30.

BTW, the roll-out of updates is not so predictable as rolling around the globe. I sometimes get them quickly, but this time (US east coast), I did not get it until yesterday afternoon - 2 days after the first reports here that 25.6.1 was out! But I never got the 25.6.0 update - it was pulled before I rolled up!

Ah, great! Looks like it just took a bit longer for the update to reach us here in the UK!

@Brett27209461frf9,

PR 25.6.1 has just come out. Which version are you on?

In previous versions of Premiere before 25.5, I was able to use the Alt/Option key, and the arrow keys on my keyboard to quickly move word by word (as opposed to letter by letter) in renaming/re-labelling assets in the Project Panel. For some reason, in this new update, that function (which is common in most text editing software) is not functioning. It may seem like a small thing, but it certainly slows me down as I am quickly trying to rename sequence versions or rename assets in my project.

@Nico5FDE,

Unlike the bug in this thread, the behavior you are describing has been true for PR for some time. Your comment might not get the same attention as it would if it were separately filed as a bug or feature request. But perhaps it will.

In any event, I'm Win11, and I see the same thing. Double-clicking a caption in the Program Monitor to edit it selects all of it. Ctl+Right deselects it all and does nothing else - there is no insertion point. And Ctl+Right then does nothing. (Same for Ctl+Left.)

In the Text panel, it does what you expect. Double-click a caption there, and Ctl+Left deselects, sets the insertion point at the end, and moves back one word.

Workarounds - let us know if these don't work on Mac:

With all selected, Home goes to the beginning of the last line, and Ctl+Home goes to the very beginning of the caption - even if 2 lines. And then Ctl_Right/Left work as expected.

There is a current bug that may prevent this next option working. It is fixed in the Beta, and should be fixed in the next Release version. You must double-click when the Selection tool (arrow) is active. If you hit T to select the Text tool; then a single click enters edit mode and places the insertion point where you click.

When I create captions and the orange layers appear, and I want to edit text here and there, I double-click the text directly on the preview panel, not the Text panel. When I do that and I want to edit the beginning of the sentence, in any software I usually select anywhere and then press CMD + Left Arrow to go back word by word until I'm where I want to be. On Premiere Pro, I can't. Doing that does nothing UNLESS I first press any arrow key to start moving letter by letter first, and then pressing CMD + Left Arrow works. This is easy to reproduce.

I am on the latest MacOS 26, but this has been an issue ever since I've been using Premiere Pro.

Thank you!

Thank you, Jamie! How is it possible a version of Premiere shipped with such a blatant issue!? Glad it's being worked on... can we expect a resolution soon? Seems this was first reported a MONTH ago!? 🤦‍♂

@jamieclarke  could we also possibly report ctrl + delete not deleting whole words either, or ctrl+shift+arrow not doing anything when using text layers - it should highlight whole words, pretty please haha, it drives me crazy (at least on windows, idk if it works on mac or not)
