P: Specific Presets do Not Save when I exit and return from the application (PREMIERE PRO)

Summary of the issue:

When I import specific effects presets in Premiere Pro, they do not save after I exit and return to the application. While some effects within the preset do save, certain specific ones, such as the "shake" effect, are not saved.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. Import a custom preset that includes multiple effects, including the "shake" effect.
  2. Exit Premiere Pro.
  3. Open Premiere Pro again and check if the effects have been saved.

Expected result:

All imported effects, including the specific "shake" effect, should be saved and available when I reopen Premiere Pro.

Actual result:

The "shake" effect (and some other specific effects) is not saved, even though other effects within the preset are retained.

Additional information:

  • I am not using any third-party plugins or panels.
  • Please find my system specs and exact Premiere Pro version below: Windows 11, Premiere 24.6.1.

Ok I did it @jamieclarke and now the presets stay when I restart Premiere. But now I have two problems.

Since I had so many custom Transform effect presets, when I made new ones using the new Transform effect, I gave them different names to keep track. I finished up and restarted PrPro and renamed my new effects to the old original ones I replaced. But when starting PrPro again, the new effects names reset back to the ones I gave back when I was just keeping track. I can't get the names to permanently change.

Second problem is the Paint Bucket effect. I used to use it as a work around to make an outline because PP doesn't have a stroke/outline effect. But according to the link you gave, the replacement Adobe gives to Paint Bucket effect is an effect called Lumetri. I assume they mean Lumetri Color because there's no effect with the name "Lumetri" by itself. Problem is there's no option to apply an outline to a clip. What do I do?

Hi @Ahmet26047475ozev - Just a reminder: if you apply your old preset that contains the outdated Transform effect, it won’t work correctly even if you try to save it again. You’ll need to build a new preset from scratch using the updated Transform effect from the Effects panel.

What do I next? @jamieclarke

Hello @jamieclarke after importing my effects again I placed one of my Transform effects onto a clip, tweaked it a bit, and exported the preset with a test name. But when I closed and re-opened Premiere, the test preset I just made disappeared too.

Hi @Ahmet26047475ozev - The Paint Bucket effect is part of the Obsolete effects set. Additionally, the Transform effect has been updated if you’d like to continue using it in your presets, please recreate the preset using the latest version of the Transform effect.

Hello again @jamieclarke I have not heard back from you. As you can see in my screenshots there are effects that are not on the obsolete list yet they still disappear everytime I start up Premiere.

Hello @jamieclarke here ares the effects I was talking about that disappear. Screenshots are below. And to clarify these are my custom made presets/effects. They are normally saved under the Presets bin folder in the Effects panel.

I've already seen the the posts about this issue for years now and I know the work arounds. I create a custom "custom effects" folder, and place any new effects I make in there.

I used the other workaround where I export all my effects as a backup PRPSET file to import when my effects disappear on a new session. I started doing this becuase my own custom effects folder was missing effects after updating Premiere over the years.

I can't just drag the old Preset file into the current year PrPro folder either because upon opening any project, all my effects will be onscreen for a moment but then the effects panel will refresh and the same custom effects will diappear again. That's why I resort to importing everytime I start/load a project.

But it gets tiring doing this for some years now. And everytime I import the PRPSET file I have to delete the custom effects currently in Premiere first or else duplicates of those effects will be imported too and clutter the Effects panel.

Is there a fix to this bug to import my custom effects and keep them all there permanently? No more workarounds just an actual permanent fix?

I'm on Windows 10 latest version.

I'm on the most current version of Premiere Pro as of May 29, 2025.

Hi @Ahmet26047475ozev - What Effects are you using that are disappearing?

As part of ongoing work to modernize Premiere Pro, the Obsolete Effects folder and plug-ins, Obsolete Transitions folder and plug-ins, and presets built from the obsolete effects are now removed.  Please see this article for more information. Obsolete Effects, Transitions and Presets

Some of my personal presets dissapeared when I restarded premiere pro.. But I think i found the solution.. After version update 24.5 this problem seems to appear.. Version 24.5 and before are working fine with holding the presets.

This problem seems to appear by alot of people when I look at the forums.. I use all 3rd party plugins from other creators and I cant update those presets.. So hopefully they come with a solution by future updates from Premiere Pro, so that all the personal presets stay after reopening Premiere Pro. Because I can't update my Premiere Pro now to the latest update and missing out on some amazing features.

After update version 24.5 also Bevel Edges, Convolution Kernel, Blurs and Solarizes where removed from the effects panel. The presets that dissapeared in the versions after 24.5 did not include obsolute effects, but maybey there is a correlation between that.

Hopefully you guys can come up with a solution for this, so I can use my 3rd party presets and can update to the latest version, because I'm missing out on some amazing features with AI right now.

I can import presets and they get saved. However, it will not let me change any presets names. It keeps reverting back to the origional name after saving and closing down premiere pro. I am using 25.2 version of premiere pro.
