PPro 25.5: Productions/Projects Trying to Access "Scratch Disk" crashes program

App version: Premiere Pro 25.5
Platform/OS: Windows 11
3 Edit-PCs (all Windows 11, using PPro 25.5) connected to a NAS (Grack) over 10GbE

Basic Steps:
 - One of the Edit-PCs can open PPro Project and/or Production (created in 25.5) on the NAS
- When they try to open “Scratch Disks” for a Project or Production, Premiere crashes on their machine.
 - Premiere also crashes if they try opening
            - “Project >> General Settings”, or
            - “Production >> General Settings”

            - Premiere also crashes if a Production is open (no Projects opened yet), and we try to view "General Settings" or "Scratch Disks".

 - We found they had backed up their “C:/[User]/Documents” (including the “C:/[User]/Documents/Adobe” folder) to OneDrive.
- We logged into their OneDrive & told Windows to save the “Documents/Adobe” folder offline, but the problem persists.

Tried:
 - Clearing the Media Cache
 - Purging Program preferences
 - Completely Uninstalling/Restarting PC/Reinstalling Premiere Pro

None of the above steps allow the Project Settings/Production Settings panel to launch without crashing Premiere.

The issue is now happening on another Edit-PC, where completely uninstalling/rebooting/reinstalling PPro 25.5 gives the same result (unable to open “Scratch Disks” for Production or locally saved Project).

I have the DMP error report file from SentryIO-db, but can't upload it here.

It's killing our workflow, because Premiere reverted to "Software Only" render mode, isn't utilizing GPU & we have no way to "enable" GPU usage again.

Thanks @Dani_V.

| If the crashes were followed by a Crash Report or Error dialog box, we can look up the reports if an email is added in before sending. I can message you regarding the the DMP file you already have as well.
I did submit at least 2 crash reports with my email attached. I can share my email and/or the DMP file over a Direct Message.

| is this issue happening across all three computers?
I can confirm issue on 2 of the Edit-PCs. The 3rd Editor was out today when the issue "spread" to my Edit machine.

| Did this start with 25.5
Yes, to the best of my knowledge. The Edit-PC-1 (User who had "Documents/Adobe" on OneDrive) was able to access the "Scratch Disks" previously & manually assign their location in Premiere Production Projects in previous versions.

any other changes made to the workflow before the update ?
No, we were able to access "Project/Production Settings"/"Scratch Disks" options up until today on NAS-hosted Projects & Productions.

| is Software Only affecting all three computers and could you share the GPU/hardware info of the affected ones?
Let me confirm info tomorrow morning. My Edit-PC-2's GPU is a NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super
NVIDIA Studio Driver - WHQL
Driver Version: 581.29 - Release Date: Wed Sep 10, 2025

| Additionally, it sounds like this is only happening to projects saved on a NAS. Are you able to see what the scratch disk paths are set to before the crash?
No. Clicking Menu >> File >> Project Settings (or Production Settings) >> "General" or "Scratch Disks" results in an instant pop-up of Premiere's "Crash Report", but doesn't launch the Panel where we'd see "Project/Production Settings" or the "Scratch Disks" tabs.

| What if a brand new project is created in any of the affected computers?
If I turn off my 10GbE network card, I can start a New Project & see the "Project Settings"/"Scratch Disks" Panel then. But turning my network card back on & trying to see the Scratch Disks of the main Production (on the NAS, or opening any past Production) results in Premiere's Crash Report.

| If you go to File > New Project and in the New Project window you click the little gear icon at the bottom, are you able to access the Scratch Disks tab from there?
Let me check & confirm tomorrow. I believe starting a New Project & clicking on the Gear Icon (under Templates, but no Templates were selected) on the NAS resulted in a Crash.

| If so, what Path are the scratch disks set to for the new project?
When I can access the Scratch Disk path, they are set to "Same as Project"/"Same as Production".

As a last resort today, I uninstalled all stable versions of PPro 2024 & 2025, restarted the PC, and reinstalled PPro 25.5. I think tomorrow I'll uninstall, reboot, run the CC Cleaner, reboot, & try to reinstall PPro 25.5.

I know I have Extensions on my Edit-PC-2 (Knights of the Editing Table: Excalibur, WatchTower, etc ; as well as Mr Horse's Premiere Composer) that are not on the other Edit-PC-1. Before I uninstalled/reinstalled, I believe "Merlin" (from KotET) and MrHorsePremiereComposer showed under PPro's "Control Surfaces".

Are there Adobe/Premiere folders I should move/rename/purge out of my Windows system so these Extensions and/or Control Surfaces can be ruled out as potential culprits? Or should I reinstall them to resolve potential database dependencies?

I guess as a follow-up, do I need to confirm "Window >> Workspaces >> Import Workspace from Project" is turned off?

I left off that when the Crash issue persisted, I changed the User Workspace to another pre-built Workspace (PPro native ones like "Editing", "Color", "Captions & Graphics"), but that didn't stop the Crashes.

Thank you for any guidance you can provide!

Hi @JonJackson500

Thank you for reporting a problem and sorry you're experiencing issues. If the crashes were followed by a Crash Report or Error dialog box, we can look up the reports if an email is added in before sending. I can message you regarding the the DMP file you already have as well.

Just to clarify a couple of things, is this issue happening across all three computers? Did this start with 25.5 or were any other changes made to the workflow before the update? Also, is Software Only affecting all three computers and could you share the GPU/hardware info of the affected ones?

Additionally, it sounds like this is only happening to projects saved on a NAS. Are you able to see what the scratch disk paths are set to before the crash?

What if a brand new project is created in any of the affected computers? If you go to File > New Project and in the New Project window you click the little gear icon at the bottom, are you able to access the Scratch Disks tab from there? If so, what Path are the scratch disks set to for the new project?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani
