Premier pro 2026 is unusable

Premiere Pro 2026 is unusable on my system despite Premiere Pro 2025 running flawlessly.

My hardware:

  • RTX 2080 Ti (Studio Driver)
  • Windows 11

My workload is extremely lightweight:

  • One static image
  • One audio track
  • Approximately 46 minutes long
  • No effects, no multicam, no color grading, no 4K/8K footage

Premiere Pro 2025 edits much larger projects without issue, including timelines with dozens of layers and large exports.

In Premiere Pro 2026, basic UI actions consistently caused severe freezes:

  • Enabling/disabling Snap
  • Zooming the timeline
  • General timeline interaction

During these freezes, Premiere's memory usage increased dramatically (roughly from 800 MB to around 5 GB), Windows reported the application as "Not Responding," and in one instance the entire system became so unresponsive that I couldn't even open Task Manager for several minutes.

Reverting to Premiere Pro 2025 immediately resolved the issue.

    Hi @Paganwolf13

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums! Sorry to hear you’ve having issues, and I wanted to let you know this is part of an on-going investigation our team is working on. I’ve added your post to that bug report and appreciate your details.

Wanted to confirm you have the latest Studio driver and which version/build of Premiere v26.X?  You can find that by launching Premiere and going to the top menu Help > About Premiere.

It sounds like a workaround that’s doing well for you is going back into v25.X, can you let us know which specific v25 version/build was it last working in?

In some cases, they have additionally identified that having Windows Accessibility on such as ‘Magnifier’ could create issues. See this post:

Even if you did not actively turn Magnifier on, sometimes it can be toggled on from launching certain Steam games, etc. I would check on that, as well.

I’ll provide an update once I receive further information. Thank you again for taking the time to report about this bug, it’s a huge help.

    Appreciate it,
    Katie
