Premiere 26.2 suddenly stopped closing

I’m trying to understand what happened. For the last week my Premiere 26.2 won’t quit or close. 

How it happens:

  • I work on projects (any)
  • At a certain moment I want to close Premiere, so I save it with Ctrl+S and click the close application button in the upper right-hand corner of its window. 
  • Nothing happens

I left it for an hour and it won’t close even then. The only way to close Premiere now is to click the application several times to make it blank and “Application does not respond” or close its process.

The worst thing - I have no idea what happened. I didn’t install any other programs as of late, I did not change any preferences anywhere. And it happens with all projects, be them new or old, or even empty. What is even stranger - After Effects does the same!

My troubleshooting includes:

  • resetting Pr and AE preferences
  • turning off all third-party plugins
  • purging cache
  • restarting, trying the safe mode

Nothing helps. Before the next step - uninstalling ALL third-party plugins and then the whole Adobe suite - I would like to get some other help to solve it with less blood.

      Will it close if you use Alt + F4?

      Thanks for the detailed troubleshooting steps.

      One thing that stands out is that both Premiere Pro and After Effects are exhibiting the same behavior. Since you've already reset preferences, cleared caches, disabled third-party plugins, and tested with new/empty projects, this may point to something outside of the individual applications themselves. Are you still experiencing this issue? Have you had any luck fixing this by updating to 26.2.2?

      In 26.2.2 it happens seldom, but still does at times.

      And an immediate update. Called my colleague who works in Pr 26.2 too and he confirmed having had the same issue lately. My specs: 14700K, 4080, 64 Gb of ram, Win11 24h2. His: 14900K, 5080, 128 Gb of ram, Win11 25h2. Same scenario, same behavior.
