Before updating to Premiere Pro 2025 Version (25.3),  2024 was working perfect and never had this issue. ever since the update I'm struggling with this issue. I stopped the "Generating Peak file"  thinking it would help. But Still every time its reopened its stuck doing the same.

Thanks for the tip!  So solved my problem!  It wasn't media intellegence (it did it thing a while ago) I disabled all my 3rd party plugins when loading premiere and the relinking took only like 10-15 seconds.  So I traced the problem to a 3rd party plugin I recently installed called Sony Catalyst Prepare Plugin - this is used for sony cameras to give various raw-like controls with sony cameras.  Once I removed that the problem went away.

Nice thought but this didn’t fix it for me. Every time I open PR is relinking (progress bar) for around 10-15 minutes for a large documentary project. Until it’s finished I only see the media pending thumbnail and don’t hear any audio.

Hi @SpaceCherryFilms,

We are currently tracking this bug, and it has been prioritized with our engineers.   I don't have an eta on a fix, but many users have found that turning off the media Intelligence features speeds up the prefetch process.
I hope we can help you shortly. Sorry for the pain points.

Thanks. Do you have any updates on this bug? It is still happening in PR 2026. Thanks

Yes please, ANY updates? As it stands after the 2026 update, Premiere still becomes completely unusable and eventually crashes if I so much as touch any timeline before it has finished relinking media (loading my 12 Core CPU anywhere from 25-45% according to WTM). How do you mess up this badly and not manage to fix it for over a year?

I have a documentary Im working on in Premiere Pro 2025 and it gets stuck at 3% relinking the footage and just sits there.  It's been 20+ minutes with no movement and my project will not load.  The footage is on a SSD.  I never had this problem before but after updating to version 25.4.1 I have had several projects freeze when relinking media.

Thanks for the information @Calgary_VideoAudioTech. What system specs do you have and what is the source media (file type/format) of the majority of the files? Do you have an average for the project sizes?

Hello @Dani_V.
Thank you for responding.

Its happening with all project files. The source Files are stored on external drive, Never did this happen with last version of premiere pro. its basically happening since I shifted to 2025. I have disabled the Generating Peak file aswell just to reduce the delay but the Relinking of footage is painful as it takes 1-20 minutes. Source has been the same for majority of the files.

Hi @Calgary_VideoAudioTech,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and thank you for reporting a problem. We need a few more details to help with the issue, like hardware information. Please see How to Report a Problem.

A few questions: Is this affecting all your projects or just your current project? What kind of source media are you working with and where is the media and project stored? Do you see any other processes happening in the Progress Dashboard in the top right corner?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani
