Premiere Pro 2026 and Encoder Shutting down iMac Pro / Thermal overload

Since upgrading to PP2026 any export, even a light H264 video is throttling my GPU and overloading the thermals causing my computer to shut down within seconds of clicking export. Completely unusable. Have tried all sorts of workarounds including software rendering and media encoder, nothing helps. Will start my next project in PP2025 until this is fixed.

System:

iMac Pro 2017 2.3ghz 18-core, Radeon Pro Vegas 64 16GB, 128GB Memory, running Sequoia 15.7.9

    Hi Kevin,

At first I didn’t suspect Premiere, I was convinced it was hardware after doing tests, to the point I wiped it and reinstalled the OS, blew compressed air through the vent in case of dust, but same issue.

Admittedly, I should have tried exporting from another software before everything else, but no issues from other software. When I click export from Premiere and Media Encoder my fans kick in fast and loud and then shutdown. I re-installed PP2025 same type of project and export settings, ran smooth with normal thermals and I can run other tasks at the same time.

    Using PP2026 Version 26.3.2 (Build 2)

In addition, I’ve been running exports from the project on my 2022 MacBook Pro, M2, 8GB Memory, even on this the fans go wild as soon as I export, where as on PP2025 the fans are relatively quiet.

    Hi PolarityFilms,

Sorry for the trouble. A complete system shutdown during export is definitely concerning.

Since you're using a 2017 iMac Pro with an Intel Xeon processor and Radeon Pro Vega 64, I'd first confirm whether the same project and export settings work normally in Premiere Pro 25.x. If 25.x exports successfully but 26.x consistently causes the shutdown, that's an important detail for us to investigate.

I'd also check the Mac's cooling system and temperatures, since a thermal shutdown can indicate a system-level hardware issue under heavy CPU/GPU load.

Please also let us know your exact Premiere Pro 26.x version and whether this happens with a simple test project.

    Thanks,
