Premiere Pro 25.2.3 – Export window vanished into the void (only Media Encoder works)

Dear Adobe overlords & fellow war-torn editors,

I’m at my wit’s end. Premiere Pro – that beautiful, chaotic beast – has once again pulled the rug out from under me. I’m on version 25.2.3, and suddenly the Export window has just… disappeared. Click it, nothing happens. Not a flicker. No error, no warning. Just dead silence. Like shouting into the Grand Canyon with a render queue.

The only thing that still works is sending the sequence to Media Encoder – which feels like dragging a dead horse uphill when I just want a fast in-timeline export.

Things I’ve tried, in a haze of caffeine and rage:
• Restarting Premiere
• Rebooting the entire machine
• Resetting preferences (the digital equivalent of a rain dance)
• Updating to the latest version (of course)

This is not the first time something inexplicably breaks after an update. In fact, I’m starting to believe Premiere is less an editing software and more of a cosmic experiment in testing patience.

No major system changes on my end – just a normal Tuesday spiraling into madness. I’m on a deadline, and the clock is ticking like a bomb in a spaghetti western.

If anyone out there has a fix, a hack, a spell – I’m all ears.
Cheers from the front lines.

Quick update:

I made a new project and transferred sequences with XMLs, an AAF, as well as importing the main edit sequence directly into the project and the export tab is back running.

Still no clue what caused the issue but I will come back to this if anything creeps up.

Cheers!

hey stan!

It's very weird...

I plugged my SSD into a colleagues macbook and it works over there.

I just made everything offline in a project copy and still no success...

I also tried exporting form the stringout / rushes.

In the meantime i also updated my macbook to Sequoia 15.4.1 - no luck so far...

@leakuslokus,

I open the project, offline everything, and I can access the export mode using Ctl+M or clicking the tabs at the top.

I'd try some things to see if you can get the export window to appear. I'd do a "save as" for the project to avoid messing the actual project up.

Find a short sequence that has only clips, no nested sequences. Make one if you don't have one handy. Confirm the Export window does not open. Then select everything in the sequence, right-click, and "make offline." Does it open now?

If you find a way to make any part of the project work, then you can try to narrow down which sequences or assets might be at issue.

If not, you can copy the project to a different location so it can't see any of the files, then open and offline all. Does that work?

Stab away.

Stan

Stan, my man — you’re a hero in a collapsing world. Appreciate you jumping into the fire with me here.

So: I’ve cleared the cache. Nuked the preferences. Birthed the issue from other 25. versions. Built a shiny new project from scratch. The strange part? Export works perfectly fine in that clean project… until — and this is where it gets weird — I start moving things over from the original beast I’ve been editing.

The moment I bring in all the sequences and files from the current ad project (which, by the way, I’m already neck-deep in), the export window crawls under the floorboards and disappears again.

So I’m thinking there’s some corrupted entity lurking inside the project — maybe a file, maybe a sequence, maybe some ghost Premiere imported in the night and never told me about. Whatever it is, it’s jamming up the works.

Appreciate any further ideas if you’ve got ‘em. I’m not afraid to poke the beast, I just need to know where to start stabbing.

Cheers!

@leakuslokus,

No fix, no hack, don't got your back;

Dear leakuslokus, no Hocus Pocus!

Loved the "rain dance."

Okay, down to the small bit of business I have to offer. But I suspect you have tried what there is.

Win10 PR 25.2.3 and I have no issue with exporting from PR, clicking on the Export mode menu or using Ctl+M.

When I update, I always reset preferences, clear the cache, reset the plugins cache (now that they've made it so easy).

Then I create a brand new project and run it through its paces.

Do the new test project and add a single clip, make a sequence, and try to export.

If that works, you can try importing your old project into a new one.

Did you update from 25.2.1 to 25.2.3 or something earlier? If so, I don't think that much changed. If from an earlier version, I'd also look at graphics card driver.
