Premiere Pro 26.3.2 – severe memory leak during rendering on Apple M5 Pro (24 GB), memory grows to 106 GB

I have identified a reproducible memory leak in Premiere Pro 26.3.2.

System:

  • Mac with Apple M5 Pro
  • 24 GB Unified Memory
  • macOS: 26.6.2
  • Premiere Pro 26.3.2

Problem:
When rendering my project, Premiere Pro continuously increases its memory usage. It eventually reaches approximately 106 GB, despite the system having only 24 GB of Unified Memory, and Premiere eventually becomes unresponsive and crashes.

The project contains large TIFF image files (approximately 1.2 GB per TIFF). I am working extensively with these high-resolution TIFF files in the sequence.

Important comparison / regression:
The exact same project, media and rendering process works correctly in Premiere Pro 26.2.2 on the same Mac.

  • Premiere Pro 26.2.2 → works correctly
  • Premiere Pro 26.3.2 → severe memory leak / crash

This strongly suggests that the issue was introduced between these versions.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the project containing the large TIFF files.
  2. Open the affected sequence.
  3. Start rendering.
  4. Monitor Premiere Pro's memory usage in macOS Activity Monitor.
  5. Memory usage continuously increases, eventually reaching approximately 106 GB.
  6. Premiere Pro becomes unresponsive and crashes.

The issue does not occur with Premiere Pro 26.2.2 using the same project and media.

This appears to be a serious memory-management regression in Premiere Pro 26.3.2, potentially related to the handling/rendering of large TIFF files.

    Hi @Philippe219423748rvg

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums and providing us these helpful details about that memory issue from v26.2.2 to v26.3.2 and TIFFs. Our team will be looking into this.

In the meantime, I wanted to request if we could get a Sample process from you the next time you notice the memory growing with Premiere becoming unresponsive. You can open Activity Monitor ahead of time, begin working, and swap over to it for ease. See below:

    1. Open Activity Monitor and identify the Premiere process (you can use search to filter for only Premiere)
    2. In Premiere, get it into the hanging/unresponsive state
    3. Switch back to Activity Monitor and right click on Premiere then choose > Create Sample
    4. Click Save, then save it as a text file somewhere easy to find.

Then, you can DM me and either provide us the link to/access for this file -or- I can send you our Dropbox upload link to drop the file on, whatever's easiest.

Just two other thoughts that might be useful details for us, as well.
    1) Screenshot(s) of a few TIFFs with their Media Properties, as a sample. can just right click a few in project panel.
    2) any effects, scaling, nesting, masks, or adjustment layers on these? and about how many TIFFs estimated would you say are in this one project?

As an update, we did try performing a test on our side, but were able to render in both 26.2.2 and 26.3.2 so I do suspect the sample and possibly getting a copy of simplified project with a few media samples will be a good next step.

    Hope to help!
