Premiere Pro 27.1 – Captions disappear completely during video export on macOS, even when "Burn Captions into Video" is selected. Converting captions to graphics fixes the issue.
Subject: Critical Caption Export Bug in Premiere Pro 27.1 on macOS
Hello Adobe Premiere Pro Team,
After updating Premiere Pro and macOS, I encountered a serious issue with captions.
Captions created through the Text panel → Captions are visible in the editing timeline and in the editing preview, but they completely disappear during export. They are also missing from the exported MP4 file.
Here are the troubleshooting steps I performed:
- Updated both Premiere Pro and macOS.
- Tested the issue in a completely new project.
- Tested different fonts, including Lucida Grande and Arial.
- Confirmed that the caption track is enabled and visible.
- Confirmed that "Burn Captions into Video" is selected in export settings.
- Changed caption text colors, but the issue persisted.
- Confirmed that regular Type Tool text graphics export correctly.
The workaround that solved the problem:
Using Graphics and Titles → Upgrade Caption to Graphic converts the captions into regular graphic layers, and they then appear correctly in the exported video.
This strongly suggests that the problem is related to the native Captions rendering or export process.
System information:
- Premiere Pro version: 27.1
- Operating system: macOS (Golden Gate 27.2)
- Hardware: Mac (MacBook Pro 14-inch, 2023)
This issue significantly disrupts my editing workflow, especially when working on multiple projects.
Please investigate and fix this issue so that native captions can be exported correctly without requiring users to convert every caption into a graphic manually.
Thank you.
