Premiere Pro Export Glitch

Please help I am having a very frustrating issue where I have the same couple of frames display as super glitchy when I export from PP. See screenshot below. Look at his face and around his hands.

This is not present in the original footage, and does not display in my timeline. I have exported about 10 times now, below are some of the things I've changed, and each time this glitch happens at the same exact spot. Client is expecting video so appreciate any help!!

Editing on PP 24.5.0 (Build 57).

I have cleared the media cache.

I have restarted the system.

I have started a clean project and copied/pasted just the media from my timeline into the new project.

I have used PP and ME to export, using both CUDA and Software Only settings.

I am exporting H.264 and have tried 40mbps and 20mbps, using Max Quality checked AND unchecked.

Footage is from Sony FX6 as 23.976fps XAVC-L 4K. Timeline is 23.976 1080p.

GPU is GeForce RTX 3080 running 560.70 driver.

System info is below:

Yes it is MXF wrapped. I have filmed a lot with this camera in XAVC Intra format with no issues in Premiere. This was my first shoot using XAVC-L (Long GOP) and also the first time this problem occured. The Sony FX6 XAVC codecs are all MXF wrapped.

Thanks for the info re: the NVIDIA Studio vs. Game Ready drivers, I wasn't aware of that and have just installed the Studio driver. Interested to see how that affects editing performance!

Thanks @Kevin-Monahan - You're right, I had not tried that method, only Software Encoding via Media Encoder.

Your comment on the issue possibly being related to an issue with the Long GOP codec got me thinking. What I did now was to simplify my troubleshooting by using Catalyst Browse to export the clip as XAVC Intra, replaced it in PP, and exported how I normally would using CUDA Hardware Encoding, and VOILA it worked. So definitely this seems to be an issue with Premiere Pro handling of Long GOP codecs, as I have not changed my drivers or done any other interstitial steps. And to answer your question, my GPU driver is the game-ready driver, yes.

Thank you for your super quick replies on this! I will mark the issue as solved now, though that Long GOP issue will need to be addressed.

Hi Matthew,

I'm glad you found a workaround. Is your footage MXF wrapped? That has been causing trouble with certain footage and the team is working on fixes for that now.

Try also doing a clean installation of the studio driver for any pro installation of Premiere Pro. FYI, the game-ready driver is for video game performance while the studio driver is for pro video applications. I hope that helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if it wasn't clear but I have already tried Software Encoding with the same results.

Thanks. So you've tried Software Only for Mercury Playback Engine, but to be clear have you also tried Software Encoding in Export Mode > Video > Encoding Settings? Another thing to try is to switch off GPU accelerated decoding in Preferences > Media and then reboot. Do you have the game-ready GPU driver installed? You could also try installing the studio driver or a previous version of the driver. If none of these things work, you could create a ProRes master and then create an H.264 copy. Let me know if you need assistance with any of these items. I hope we can assist you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Matthew P,

Thanks for filing your bug report. Thanks for providing all the excellent details. Looks like a problem with exporting Long-GOP codecs and your GPU driver. You might try exporting using software encoding instead of hardware encoding to see if that might help. Let the community know if it does. I hope the team will respond soon with more information shortly.

Thanks,
Kevin

Just realized some additional issues that are REALLY blowing my mind:

I tried rendering the timeline to see if I could export using Previews, and the same issue happens at the exact same place in the timeline with the render file. SO I thought I would export the frame to show you guys, using the Export Frame command in PP's Program Monitor...and it exported a clean frame without the glitch!!

Here is what I see in PP:

And here is the exported PNG straight from the same frame:

Viewing the footage in Sony Catalyst Browse (the native Sony software) I have confirmed there is no glitching in the original clip.
