Premiere Pro gets progressively slow on Mac Studio M1 Max - working with transcriptions and export

Hello,

Premiere Pro (24.3.0) gets progressively slow when working with transcriptions on my Mac Studio M1 Max (Ventura 13.6.6). Editing with text is completely out of the question. It also is very very sluggish when trying to interact with the Export screen... you click on location, it takes 20-30sec to bring up the prompt, click on caption - 20-30sec to bring up options, etc...

The problem seemed to start with the update last year that changed the export dialogue screen.

Things to note...

I've tried the usual... reset prefs, delete cache, remove the app and reinstall it, etc..

This doesn't happen with the same project on my MacBook Pro (intel i9 Montrey)

When you quit Premiere Pro and restart it, performances temporily improves

If you use the Media Encoder to import the sequence from the PP project file, the export screen runs completely fine with no lagging at all.

Weirdly I can't seem to seem much else online about this, but there does seem to be something wrong with either my installation or how PP interacts with Mac Studio M1s.

Any help, much appreciated.

Hi, I have been investigating for this same issue and one method works for me. It is very weird but try open your project file by this order.

Launchpad > click premiere pro app > open your project

It totally worked for me!! I found this method from Korean youtuber (https://youtu.be/Xlor-sKpb3E?si=cJN6HCG0h_Ocf2gf)

To update this, this is still an ongoing issue which is unresolved... it appears to be somehow linked to caching, as clearing cache can temperarily resolve the issue for a very short while. The export dialogue is becoming more and more unstable...

Hello, relunctantly I've upgraded the OS to the latest version in a bid to fix this issue and it seems to be running much smoother.

Having similar issues with my M2 Max Studio. On my M1 MacBook Pro, I have no isses whatsoever with text-based editing, but have horrible playback and overal lage when working on the studio. I'm referencing the same project here - in which I am working off an external SSD in both cases. Doesn't make sense to me why an older device (the M1) performs better than the new (and supposedly faster) M2 studio on the exact same project. I've got proxies for everything, too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi outofsync,

Thanks for filing your bug report. Have you tried transcoding the MXF wrapped footage? I hope you have made progress since you filed the report. Are you still having issues? Let the community know.

Thanks,

And if it's any use, the content I tend to edit is MXF files from Sony FX6 or FX9.
