Premiere Pro triggers a keyboard shortcut while I'm typing an object's name

I assigned the “Q” key as a shortcut for "Reveal in Finder" for the selected item in the Project panel.

However, when I rename an item in the Project panel and the name contains the letter Q, Premiere stops the renaming process at that letter and triggers the "Reveal in Finder" command instead.

On top of that, "Reveal in Finder" doesn't work correctly either. It simply brings Finder to the foreground without opening any windows, and that's it.

    Hello @paul.os

    Welcome to the Premiere Forums. Thank you for posting. Premiere supports both application-wide shortcuts and panel-specific shortcuts. Panel-specific shortcuts work when their panel is active and can take priority over application shortcuts (such as just typing letters). Since “Reveal in Finder” is assigned to the unmodified Q key, that may explain why it fires while the Project panel is active. Keyboard shortcuts in Premiere

    As a workaround, you could clear that assignment or try a modifier shortcut such as Shift+Q or Option+Q. Personally I have Command + R for Reveal in Finder and R is clear out point for me, as that’s Source Panel and Timeline Panel specific, it doesn’t fire when I have the Project Panel active.

    Since Finder is just coming to the foreground, it could be that it’s unclear if a clip or sequence is selected. Does this shortcut work properly when you are just clicking on a clip or if it is assigned with a modifier key?

    Hoping to help,

    Amy

    @Amy the Stuv

    This sounds like an old bug that I have not heard reported in PR 26.x.  After typing a character or two, the focus would change out of the text entry, and what the user would see is a keyboard shortcut activating. But I don’t think there was ever an issue where a shortcut was activated when typing the letter while it was still in text entry.

    I can’t test this for Mac: I'm on Win 11 and 26.5.2. I was curious about the expected behavior. I assigned Ctrl+Y to the application shortcut for Reveal in Explorer. With focus in the Project Panel and a clip selected, that shortcut opens Windows Explorer with that clip selected. If that window remains open on return to PR, with or without that clip selected, when the shortcut is used again, the same window is used.

    I assigned several key combinations to the shortcut in the Project Panel for Reveal in Explorer. NONE of them did anything. And with both assigned or only at the application level, the right-click menu drop-down works, but shows no keyboard shortcut. That is what I use, so I had never noticed any oddity.

    Curious what is true for Mac.

    I tried the Q shortcut, and it also did not work for me, but did not trigger anything. But while I could enter upper case Q in a name, typing a lower case q did nothing.
