Première R3D Red issues, worked fine before 25.6
Premiere Pro 25.6-26.3 CUDA/R3D Issue (RTX 3090)
Up to Premiere Pro 25.5 (version that introduced film impact plugins), RED Komodo and RED V-Raptor footage worked flawlessly on my system.
Starting with Premiere Pro 25.6, projects containing RED R3D footage frequently crash or fail to open properly when Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA GPU Acceleration.
The issue occurs consistently during project loading. The only reliable workaround is to launch Premiere using Mercury Playback Engine Software Only, open the project successfully, and then switch back to CUDA GPU Acceleration. Or open the project, experience the big, switch to Software only, the timeline loads, then use Cuda.
After switching back to CUDA, Premiere usually works normally for a period of time.
However, during longer editing sessions, Premiere can become unstable again. Symptoms include:
Black Program Monitor.
Playback becoming choppy, stuttering, or freezing.
RED footage no longer displaying correctly.
General GPU-related instability.
When this happens, the only workaround is quitting Premiere or sometimes to switch from CUDA to Software Only and then back to CUDA. This immediately restores normal operation.
System configuration:
Windows 11
NVIDIA RTX 3090 (24 GB)
And 9900X
RED Komodo R3D footage
RED V-Raptor R3D footage
The same hardware, media, and projects were completely stable in Premiere Pro 25.5 and earlier. The issue first appeared in 25.6 and is still present in Premiere Pro 26.3.
Because reverting to Premiere Pro 25.5 completely resolves the problem, this appears to be a regression introduced in Premiere Pro 25.6 or later.
Tried all the 'sollutions' like emptying cache, reinstall, deactivate 'Enable Advanced GPU Decoding' in console, Nvidia studio driver multiple versions.
Best wishes,
F.
