Premiere Type Tool Bug

When I need to edit a text layer in Premiere, it will not register that I am typing. 

For example, I hit the shortcut T and click into the text box. If I try to type anything the system thinks I'm hitting shortcuts and not typing.

 

To get around this issue, I must type my sentence into the notes app and paste it into Premiere. This is REALLY slowing down my workflow and is getting very frustrating.

    Can you edit in the Text panel?
