Program Monitor Guides Invisible — Fixed by Disabling GPU Accelerated UI Rendering (Premiere Pro 26.5.2)

Title: Program Monitor Guides Invisible — Fixed by Disabling GPU Accelerated UI Rendering

Issue

Guides in the Program Monitor were enabled but not visible.

Premiere Pro Version: 26.5.2
Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 26H2

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Adobe Premiere Pro.

  2. Create a new project and a new sequence.

  3. Enable Show Guides and Show Rulers in the Program Monitor.

  4. Observe that the guides are not visible.

Expected Result

The guides should be visible in the Program Monitor when Show Guides is enabled.

Actual Result

The guides were enabled but remained invisible. The issue also occurred in a newly created project and sequence. Resizing the Program Monitor and toggling Show Guides and Show Rulers did not resolve the issue.

Workaround

I disabled GPU Accelerated UI Rendering under Edit > Preferences > General and restarted Premiere Pro. After restarting, the guides became visible again.

Additional Information

Disabling GPU Accelerated UI Rendering resolved the issue, which may indicate a problem with UI rendering. Please investigate whether this is a bug in Premiere Pro 26.5.2.

Hi @fashionable_workd1f0 Thanks for the report on your issue with guides/rulers and appreciate you including all those details. We tried to recreate this issue, but it so far did not have any issues displaying already set guides through toggles or relaunches.

Just to check as I suspect your recreation steps were simply missing to add guides in our test first: had you already created guides prior in that same project? Show Guides displays existing guides, but doesn’t add any default lines without.

Also, could you try adding a new guide from View > Add Guide and see whether it appears, even with GPU acceleration enabled?

    Some additional questions for context:
    - What GPU model and driver version/build are you using?
    - Do other Program Monitor overlays, such as selection handles or anchor points, disappear, as well?
    - Finally, do you happen to have any extensions or third party plugins, and if so what are those?

    We hope to help!
    Katie

I had already added a guide to the image from the beginning. Before disabling GPU Accelerated UI Rendering, the guide was not visually displayed in the Program Monitor, although I could detect its position when moving the mouse over it.

After disabling GPU Accelerated UI Rendering and restarting Premiere Pro, the guide became visible. I then re-enabled GPU Accelerated UI Rendering and restarted Premiere again, and the guide remained visible.

So the issue appears to have been resolved after toggling this setting, although I’m not sure what caused it.

@AMZEDA That’s helpful information. If it happens again, would you be able to take a quick screen recording? I imagine you’re moving the mouse over the area where the guide should be, and it seems to detect it that way but just not visually showing?

And it would be a great help if you can list what exact GPU is on your win11 computer with the driver version and build in case that might link back to any past issue.

Sounds like the workaround for now is working by disabling that GPU Accelerated UI Rendering.

I’ll leave this post open so you can update us should it return and include the GPU/recording so we can continue troubleshooting.

    Much appreciated,
    Katie
