Program Monitor Randomly Zooms in

For a while now it felt like sometimes the program monitor would be randomly zoomed in, and cutting off the top portion of the frame, for the longest time I thought maybe it was just my own fault but I've now figured out what it is that causes this to happen.

It seems that once premiere saves (or another GUI window is closed like for example, the gain window) the program monitor retracts into this odd, almost zoomed out state. Then one the user enters and then exits the transition UI (or potentially maybe even other composite UI menus, but this is all I've discovered so far) the program monitor will become zoomed out, or otherwise placed at a different zoom level than it entered. So in this video I show that I enter the UI with the program monitor set to "Fit" and when I exit it retracts back to 24%. This can become rather annoying constantly micro-managing whether the program monitor is completely zoomed out when I expect it to be.

This issue doesn't seem to affect fresh project files but is completely reproducable on a project file that is been worked in for quite a while. At the present moment I am unsure what the exact catalyst is for this behaviour but I'd be happy to privately share my project file if that would be helpful.

  • Version of the app
    25.6.2
  • Platform and OS version
    Windows 11 24H2 (26100.2605)
  • Basic steps to reproduce the problem
    Set Program Monitor to "Fit"
Save the project, or otherwise close a UI menu like the Gain window
Hold control and highlight some edit points to enter the transition UI
Exit that UI in any way
The program monitor will now be in a different state to the one it entered that mode in
  • Expected result and actual result
I expect the program monitor to return to the zoom level that it started in, but instead it appears to return in a seemingly random zoom level

I don't appear to see a dm section anywhere on my account here so I'm unsure if you ended up sending me one, maybe I'm missing something somewhere but I went digging for one and couldn't find anything

Hey @IanB_360
It's a bit of a weird one, myself and my team have been encountering this issue for quite a while now (I can only assume since the program monitor zoom behaviour changes maybe? definitely since beyond 25.0+), but it's a bit hard to track down the cause of the issue because it doesn't seem to occur on fresh project files, but basically every project I work on eventually starts running into the issue. Unfortunately just recently started my last project for the year last week and it's already encountering it so hard for me to investigate further the initial cause at this time but hopefully the project file can yield some results!

Hi @Tom_edit
Thanks for all the info. I will direct message you, and you can send me the project file directly. Can you reproduce this issue with just this project? Or have you witnessed the behavior in new projects?
Here to help
