ProRes RAW - Stuttering on render and export

Been having issues with the latest version of Premiere - using CUDA render results in ProRes RAW footage stuttering.

Since the problem is only with the Pro Res RAW clips, I've found that the issue seems to lie in the sequence settings being a different frame size - as my output is going to be 1080p, I've been working in this space and scaling down within the edit.

I've tired exporting the single clip in matching sequence settings timeline to then import and use that way but for some reason, one frame from the other pro res shot (despite not being on that timeline) came out with the export.

PC Specs

CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 - 32GB 6800MHz CL34 DDR5

EDIT DRIVE: WD Black 4TB SSD Gen4

GPU: RTX 4060 Ti 16GB 2X

What I've tried

Rolling back drivers

I was on the game drivers - I tried the latest studio driver but no luck, so I rolled back to this version:
Driver Version:555.85 - WHQL

Release Date:Tue May 21, 2024

Premiere Pro Beta

Still the same issue

Nesting/Subsequence footage

Tried nesting the footage and sub sequences with the correct resolution - this seems to work within the timelines but once back in the master timeline, the stutter will happen again.

Exporting the subsequence and using the import file

When I tried this, the shot came out with a single frame from the other shot (despite it not being on that timeline)

Only two clips are ProRes RAW - the rest are ProRes422LT

Hi All,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. We have significantly improved ProRes RAW support in the latest Beta builds (26.5 onwards), and have also addressed several long-pending issues on Windows systems, especially on AMD CPU/GPU configurations.

Please try the latest Beta build and let us know how it behaves on your setup. We would greatly appreciate your feedback from the Beta builds.

More details are available in this forum post:
https://community.adobe.com/announcements-732/new-in-beta-improved-prores-raw-support-1561616

While we do not recommend using Beta versions for production workflows, the Beta installs separately from the release version and can safely be used for testing the fixes.

Please let us know how things look on your end after testing the Beta build. We sincerely appreciate your patience, continued support, and everyone who helped highlight and investigate these issues.

Thanks,
Mayjain

I’m experiencing these issues with the latest version of Premiere as well (26.2.0) on Windows 11. All my drivers are up to date.

Playback of ProRes RAW footage looks great. Once I export and playback, the footage is choppy. I’ve tried numerous different export settings and codecs, and had the same issue.

And although render and replace corrects the stutter issue on export, it totally destroys my color correction.

This was a huge pain to troubleshoot and work. Is this bug being investigated? Has anyone found a solution?

Tried render and replace - no luck. How is this still a problem more than one year on, causing me a massive headache with this project deadline coming up, again the issue is adobe software ugh.

No solution yet, I am still getting the issue as I have recently just had another project in which I am using Pro Res RAW and it's really distrupting my workflow with the client.

Please consider trying our ProRes RAW plugin: OCTOPUS RAW Studio. We have developed our own highly performant GPU processing pipeline optimised for CUDA/NVIDIA GPUs.

I would like to add my voice to this bug report. I encountered it as well for a little more than one year .

@Kevin-Monahan is this bug being reviewed ?

@Lewisjh I have a workaround (but it takes time) : seems to work if you "Render and replace" the ProResRaw clips in the timeline. Works for me, but it's a real pain in the a..

withy the latest Premiere Pro, drivers and high performance hardware, this issue is still present. It seems that the frames are jumping back and forth when playing ProresRAW. This does not resemble a performance issue. Data is on M2 SSD that is as fast as it gets.

Any other workarounds would be appreciated, got around 20 videos to export for a deadline soon, software only is around 30-40 mins per video whereas GPU would get each one done in around 5. Hoping this issue does not effect my deadlines.
