Relinking Media Every time I open any projects (Just happened with a new laptop)

Before this, on my previous laptop, I didn’t have this problem. I recently bought a new laptop: i7-14650HX, 64 GB RAM, RTX 5060, Windows 11, Premiere version 25.6.3.

Now, no matter which project I open, the program starts Relink Media - whether it’s an old project, an old project where I already did the relink, saved it, and reopened it, or a new project - I create it, load files, close the project, do nothing, and then open it again after 10 seconds (the files are in their original locations) - and Premiere starts Relink Media again!

Why does the program do this if the files are exactly where they were? This is extremely frustrating for projects with several terabytes of files, as I have to wait a long time every single time.

Hi @andersun 44497395
I sent you a direct message. Can you share the project and some of the media that is relinking to that project? I want to examine how the media and projects open on another machine.
Here to help.

Ian

Premiere is seeing a difference between names somewhere. The arcanities of 'drive name associations' are a bit past my knowledge level, but most of the video post apps are pretty picky in 'seeing' a file. Any little thing that is different from what they've seen before and they get wonky.

Drives us users around the bend at times. This has to do with the way Windows 'named' or registered the drive before, and is now ... and somehow both are being referenced.

I've heard of people that knew how to 'fix' this, and others that simply copied the media elsewere, reformatted and re-attached the drive, then copied the media to it ... which also worked but is a right freaking pain to need to do.

Maybe @RjL190365 knows what to do here.

All external drives have a fixed drive letter and don't go to sleep. Relink happens immediately after I close prj and reopen it in a few seconds. With SSD literally nothing happened. I worked with the same SSD on a previous laptop till day before yesterday and didn't have this issue, so I'm pretty sure that with the SSD everything ok!

Are the media files on an external drive that either doesn't have a fixed drive letter or goes to sleep when idle?

All of them. Projects created on a new computer and old. The result the same - Relink Media

Are these projects created on this computer? Or ones brought forward from the old computer?
