Subject: Issue with Automatic Relink in Adobe Premiere — Request for Fix in Next Update

Hello Adobe Support Team,

I hope you’re doing well. I’d like to bring your attention to an issue I have encountered in Adobe Premiere:

I have experienced a recurring error where the automatic relink function fails. When that happens, I must manually relink each take one by one, which is very time consuming— and as they say, time is money. I believe this issue may affect other users as well, so I kindly ask that you address it in a future update.

Here are more details:

  • I use an SSD and maintain a consistent folder naming structure for my projects (for example: S3/Weddings/2025/ProjectName).

  • Sometimes the SSD drive letter changes to “D:” or “E:”, but I don’t believe that should prevent manual relinking.

  • The problem appears with original files, and also with proxies. I suspect this might be linked to proxy files having “_1” appended at the end of the filename.

  • I will be sending a short video example to illustrate the issue.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response and a fix in a future release.

Best regards,
[Windows 11, Premiere pro 2025]

(And thank you chatGPT for translate Haha)

@S3-Bruno are the proxies in the same drive/file path and do they have the exact same file names that were linked previously? What format/file type are the proxies? (mp4, mov, etc?)

Hello Dani.

Well, now I'm having this problem relinking proxies and I have this option disabled, but it relinked some files but not all of them, so I'm stuck with this hassle of relinking one by one the rest of the proxy files that didn't relink automatically. If you can help or solve this in the next update, I'd appreciate it.

Hi @S3-Bruno

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and thank you for reporting a problem and for sharing a screen recording of the problem.

Can you deselect 'File Extension' under Match File properties and see if that makes a difference?

Is this only happening with mp4 files? Is the project being edited in across different computers or is your set-up consistent everytime you have to manually relink?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani

Assign the drive a permanent drive letter:

I think if you save the project file in same directory as your mediafiles, it should always link ok.
