remix tool keeps remixing

I use the remix tool frequently, and often have to manually edit the song after to ajust the ending or get to an exact run time. Everytime I do one of these edits, it works great, until I closed and reopen the project. Often, though not every time, when I open the project again the remixed track gets all messed up.  It ignores the edits, and starts the song over at each edit. This forces me to redo the edit again.  Is there a way to get it to commit or lock in the edits other than exporting a seperate file? 

have not managed to identify what causes this to happen when it does or why it works sometimes. 

Using Premiere Version 25.2.3, on Mac Studio M1, 65 gigs ram.
