Ripple Trimming VERY slow

Ripple Trimming has gotten significantly slower in 26.2.2. For 4 seconds sometimes up to 15 seconds after making a ripple trim forward or backward, the playhead and playback monitor freeze before you can edit again. I use Ripple Trim thousands of times per project. It was snappy before this update. I am using a M2 Ultra Mac Studio with 192 g of RAM, 8TB of storage, 24‑core CPU, 76‑core GPU, and 32‑core Neural Engine. Why is this so sluggish?

    Hi @shanecarrigan

Welcome to the Premiere forums, glad you’re here! Thanks for including that you’re using Premiere v26.2.2 on an M2 Ultra Mac Studio with your computer specs, that’s very helpful.

I ran a test with a handful of 1920x1080 HD 23.976fps .mp4’s in v26.2.2 Premiere and it seemed as expected with the Ripple tool, so wondering what else might be affecting that. If you bring that footage and/or try importing the old project into a new one, are you still experiencing the same issues?

Can you also provide us the following:

    • Video Format: If the issue relates to playback or export, please specify the format (and ideally share a sample video).

    Helpful Context

Comparing when and where the issue occurs helps us narrow down the cause:

    • Does it affect all projects or only some?
    • Does it affect new, empty projects?
    • When did the problem first begin?

Finally, when was the last time you emptied the cache out?

Sorry for your frustration and hope to help!
    Katie
