Slow imports on long format recordings - New with 2025.3

Since upgrading to 2025.3, long format recordings (1 hour plus) take a really long time to import.  It'll sit on the 'importing' diaglog for 5-10 mintues per file.  And it still has to do the indexing processing after.

Rolled back to 25.2.3 and the files import quickly again.

Also tried beta 25.6 and the issue still exists.

Occuring with many different types of source foorage of compessed formats (pro-res imports quickly, seems to be an issue with more compressed codecs).

Mac studio M2 Max 2023

OSX 15.5

PP 25.3.3

Files on internal storage

Identical issue on another similarily equipped system.

Update: After my files were imported, they were basically unusable, as they weren't showing up on the monitor when I dragged the clip into the timeline.

Reverting to 25.2.0 completely resolved the issue. Importing took seconds and everything is working fine.

Please get this fixed, Adobe.

I'm having this issue as well importing AVCHD files recorded on a Canon C100. The import process is taking far longer than I remember it taking before.

I'm using MPEG files. I downgraded Premiere to version 25.2.3 and it works well as before. But with all the newer versions doesnt works well. It changed the way of import, and it's very slow because it keeps generating audio peaks before you can start to use the video.

Sorry to hear you are also experiencing this @Juan Manuel349609618pas. How long are the imports taking for you and what kinds of files are affected? What Premiere Pro version are you on and where is your media stored? Do you have any sample files you'd be interested in sharing? The more information we can provide for the team the better.

I’m experiencing the same issue. Before, the clips would import instantly and then Premiere would keep processing the audio in the background. Now it seems like the video doesn’t even show up until the audio is fully processed, which makes the whole import process much slower and ends up wasting a lot of time. I really don’t understand why they make changes that actually make the program worse.

I've messaged you a download link with one of the problematic files.

Thank you for providing some of the file information @defaultx7btctls14ep. I realize these are pretty large files, but are there any you would be interested in sharing with the team so we can take a look?

It's a bunch of different codecs.

Here's one from a Panasonic camera

MPEG-4 (QuickTime): 25.5 GiB, 30 min 53 s
1 Video stream: HEVC
4 Audio streams: PCM / PCM / PCM / PCM

Duration: 30 min 53 s
Overall bit rate: 118 Mb/s
Frame rate: 59.940 FPS
Encoded date: 2025-04-25 01:22:38 UTC
Tagged date: 2025-04-25 01:22:38 UTC

Here's one from a sony camera

MPEG-4 (Base Media / Version 2): 112 GiB, 1 h 45 min
1 Video stream: AVC
1 Audio stream: AAC LC
Duration: 1 h 45 min
Overall bit rate: 151 Mb/s
Frame rate: 29.970 FPS
Encoded date: 2022-11-09 20:00:12 UTC

Here's one recorded from a computer (these seem to be the most problematic)

MPEG-PS: 23.6 GiB, 2 h 13 min
1 Video stream: MPEG Video
1 Audio stream: MPEG Audio

Duration: 2 h 13 min
Overall bit rate mode: Constant
Overall bit rate: 25.3 Mb/s
Frame rate: 29.970 FPS

Here's the same above file coverted to MXF

MXF (OP-1a) (XDCAM HD422): 41.2 GiB, 1 h 53 min
1 Video stream: MPEG Video
2 Audio streams: PCM / PCM
1 Text stream: EIA-608

Duration: 1 h 53 min
Overall bit rate: 52.0 Mb/s
Frame rate: 29.970 FPS
Package name: Source Package
Encoded date: 2025-08-06 04:32:48.000

Import method doesn't matter (drag, double click, or media browser)

Hi @defaultx7btctls14ep,

Thank you for reporting a problem. You mentioned compressed codecs—are you seeing this with footage from specific cameras, screen recordings, variable frame rate vs. constant rate footage, any other details they might have in common?

Have you noticed if the way they are imported into the project makes any difference? (eg. Media Browser vs. drag and drop)

Do you have any sample files you might be willing to share with the team so this can be looked into further? I can message you if interested.

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani
