Source sequence timeline playheads ganged when OFF, and ganging breaks when moving Program playhead

Environment

  • macOS Tahoe 26.5.2 | M1 Max MacBook Pro (64 GB RAM)

  • Premiere Pro 26.3.0 (Build 93)

  • No available updates in Creative Cloud at time of testing

Workflow / context

I’m using the Source Sequence in Source Monitor / Open Sequence in Timeline / pancake timelines workflow:

  • Load a sequence into the Source Monitor.

  • Use Open Sequence in Timeline to open that source sequence in its own timeline above my working Program sequence.

  • Now I have:

    • Source sequence visible in the Source Monitor and its source timeline.

    • Program sequence visible in the Program Monitor and its program timeline.

I’ve recorded a short video demonstrating the behavior here:
https://f.io/9T-wih53

Issue 1 – Source timeline playheads ganged even when Gang is OFF

Steps to reproduce

  1. Load a sequence into the Source Monitor.

  2. From the Source Monitor, Open Sequence in Timeline

  3. Ensure Gang Source and Program is OFF

  4. Scrub the playhead in:

    • Source Monitor → playheads behave independently (as expected).

    • Program Monitor → playheads behave independently (as expected).

    • Program timeline → playheads behave independently (as expected).

  5. Now scrub the playhead in the source sequence timeline

Expected behavior

With Gang Source and Program OFF:

  • Moving any playhead (Source Monitor, Program Monitor, program timeline, source timeline) should not gang/lock playheads together.

  • Source and program sequences should behave independently regardless of where I move the playhead.

Actual behavior

  • When I scrub the source timeline playhead, the program playhead moves with it, as if Gang Source and Program were ON.

  • The Gang Source and Program button is OFF, but the source timeline playhead behaves as though ganging is enabled.

  • Scrubbing in monitors or the program timeline respects the OFF state; scrubbing in the source timeline does not.

So the ganging logic appears to be incorrectly applied to the source timeline even when the gang button is off.

Issue 2 – With Gang ON, Program timeline movement turns ganging off

When I try to use Gang Source and Program intentionally, there’s another issue.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Same setup: source sequence loaded into Source Monitor and opened in a source timeline above the program timeline.

  2. Turn Gang Source and Program ON

  3. Move the playhead in the Source Monitor.

    • Source and program playheads move together (ganging works as expected).

  4. Move the playhead in the Program Monitor.

    • Playheads do not move together; ganging appears to be ignored.

  5. Grab and move the playhead in the Program timeline.

Expected behavior

With Gang Source and Program ON:

  • Moving the playhead in either monitor (Source or Program) or either timeline (source or program) should keep playheads ganged

  • Moving the program timeline playhead should not toggle the gang button off by itself.

Actual behavior

  • Moving the Source Monitor playhead correctly moves both playheads.

  • Moving the Program Monitor playhead does not move the Source playhead; they behave as if ganging is off.

  • Moving the Program timeline playhead appears to turn ganging off: after this, the playheads are no longer ganged.

So with ganging enabled:

  • Source Monitor → ganged behavior

  • Program Monitor → not ganged

  • Program timeline → movement seems to “break” or disable ganging

This makes the feature unreliable for real-world use.

Notes

  • This is 100% reproducible for me with sequences loaded as source sequences and opened in a source timeline.

  • I’m not seeing any current known‑issues notes about this in the 26.3 “What’s New” or known/fixed issues documentation.

    Hello @DavidParke

Welcome back. Thank you for your detailed bug report and the screen recording. I could not reproduce this on an M4 Mac on the latest Tahoe. I’m reaching out to the team to see if they can test on an M1 to reproduce it. Does this issue start right out of the gate or when you’ve been editing for a while?

If you try launching Premiere while holding the Shift key. Check all four options in the dialog does the problem persist?

Thank you and hoping to get more info for you soon,

    Amy
