Still Images (JPG, PNG, etc) of all sizes - 9kb (yes, super small), on up to 2-10mb in size, cause Adobe Premiere 26.3.2 to crash. I have NEVER had this kind of issue before. I cleared the cache, and restarted the app many times.

When I had full screen JPG or PNG files in a 4k resolution timeline, the app would read the photos maybe once, but then lock up.  It would not pull up the file in the timeline viewer or the source window.  Motion video works just fine.  But still images continued to cause major issues.  I eventually had to take these very basic visuals into After Effects to render as QTs, and import those into PP.  But doing this on an ongoing basis is nonsustainable.

    Hi @arthurr653101,

Welcome back to the Premiere forums. Thank you for reporting this occurrence and providing information. For the team to try to better assist you, we’ll need more detail to understand:

    • Does the problem persist in affect new, empty projects?
    • Does it affect all projects or only some?
    • Where are these images being stored?
      • Locally on your system or on an external drive?
    • Please clarify what you mean by full screen. When the image is scaled up to fill the sequence resolution, or when the Program Monitor is full screen on your display monitor.
      • Please confirm if there any external monitors connected, and if so what are the specs.

For context of the the situation and media:

    • What is the source of the images? What camera were they shot on?
      • Does transcoding to the same image specs help performance?
        • Asking in case there is any hidden metadata associated with the files.
    • Are there any effects or key frames on the images?

    Suggestions:

    • Clear Cache again. There could be a corrupted cache file some where hidden.
      • If clearing does not work. Close Premiere and try deleting Media Cache Files folder
    • Disable 3rd Party plug-ins to see if there is hang up there.
    • Log out entirely of Adobe Creative Cloud and sign back in.
      • In case there is an image connected via network. The idea this should reset the application.

Sorry for the frustration. I hope we can help you soon.

    Best,

    Jonathan
