Suddenly black frames at the end of trastitions

I’ve started to get black frames at the end of transitions. I know that there was this problem in Premiere 24, but I have never had this issue, but now I do in Premiere 26.0.2.

  • It happens randomly and I could not define the circumstances.
  • It happens bot with third party transitions and the native ones. I first saw the black frames in the Production crate transitions, so I emailed them but they could not reproduce it. Now it turns out that it can happen with Premiere’s own transitions like dissolve or ex-FilmImpact, Push for example (you will see it in the video below, that it happens with Push bit BorisFX transitions immediately have no issue, and thew issue comes back when I apply another Premiere Pro transition)
  • It happens with normal clips, nested or time-remapped ones.

Here’s how it looks:

Steps to reproduce: start Premiere, work on a project, add a transition.

Pr 26.0.2, Win11 25h2, RTX 4080 with latest NV drivers, i7-14700K

I've had this problem at least two dozen times. My solution is to manually cut 1 to 3 frames off the transition manually. It usually happens on time remapped or nested footage. Good luck.

    Hi @AndrewTheGreat ,

Thanks for the detailed report and the video, which really helps, as you know.

    A couple of questions:

    • What codec and frame rate is your footage?  Are they long-GOP?
    • Does this happen on a fresh project or only existing ones?
    • Do you see the black frames when playing back at normal speed?

    Hi, @Rach McIntire

The media it 100% happened with was this (this is where the Production crate transitions gave the black frame):

and this - yesterday’s project with the Push transition used:

I tried to copy and paste the media into a freshly started project and the black frame appeared there too. I should also mention that it did not happen on every clip. Here you can see this project still has transitions - all of them are Push and they worked. Once I came across one cut there the transition gave ma a black frame I had to use another transition:

All the black frames that appeared could be seen during scrubbing, playing back and in the final render.

Try unchecking Composite in linear color in the sequence settings.

Seen this before: change the duration of the transition to an even number of frames.
