Synchronize fails when using Playhead Follows Selection

Steps to reproduce:
- activate Playhead Follows Selection
- select two clips in timeline
- use synchronize command (mine happens to be set to sync based on audio)

Expected: clip that starts first moves to sync with later clip

Actual: Sometime after clicking ok in the synchronize dialogue, but before the progress bar showing the sync process appears, premiere selects whatever clip is under the playhead. Next, it processes the audio in the two selected clips. Then, presumably because neither of the processed clips is selected, it doesn't move anything into sync.

Workaround: turning off Playhead Follows Selection results in Synchronize working normally.

Premiere: v 26.2.0 build 65
OS: MacOS Sequoia 15.7.5

    Hi @notArtist

Thanks for the detailed report and workaround.

I attempted to reproduce this on a Mac Studio (M3 Max) running macOS Tahoe 26.5 with Premiere Pro 26.2.x, but so far I have not been able to reproduce the behavior. In my testing, Synchronize completed successfully with Playhead Follows Selection enabled.

A few questions that may help narrow this down:

    • Does this occur in a brand-new project with freshly imported media?
    • Are the clips located on the same track or different tracks?
    • Is the playhead positioned over one of the selected clips, or over a different clip when Synchronize is launched?
    • Does the issue occur with all media types, or only specific codecs/containers?
    • Can you provide a screen recording showing the selection changing immediately before the sync operation begins?

Based on your description, it sounds like the selection may be changing during the Synchronize command, causing the operation to lose track of the originally selected clips. A screen recording would be especially helpful to confirm that behavior.

In the meantime, thank you for noting that disabling Playhead Follows Selection serves as a reliable workaround.

    Hi Ian,

In the case I was observing:

    - The clips are on different tracks. I'm not sure I've ever tried syncing clips on the same track.
    - The issue happens when the playhead can catch another clip, it seems to be preventable if the playhead is over the top clip -and- there are no clips on higher tracks covering it.
    - I have not tested any media outside of prores quicktime files
