Syncing Failed With Error Code -516

On my desktop (Mac Studio M1 Max), I opened Premiere to sync my settings I uploaded 2 days prior from my laptop (Macbook Pro M1 Max). But I was greeted with an error message:

Syncing Failed With Error Code -516

Not sure what this means, and it happens when I try to download and upload settings. I couldn't even find a forum with a similar error code, but I tried the basic troubleshooting steps outlined below, but to no avail:

  1. Restarting my computer
  2. Cleaning my caches
  3. Backing up my Adobe Premiere settings in my documents so it can create new folders to try and re-sync from there
  4. Uninstalling/reinstalling Premiere
  5. Uninstalling via the Creative Cloud cleaner tool
  6. Manually migrating my settings from my Macbook to my Mac Studio, which DID bring them over, but I want to be able to sync settings in case I make any changes or keyboard shortcuts.

Frustrated, I contacted customer support who transferred me 3 times because they couldn't figure it out either, ultimately leading to them disconnecting the call. I come to my Macbook (which they haven't remoted into or done any additional work on) to see if I am experiencing the same issue (this Macbook is signed onto a different iCloud account but the same CC account, and I use it primarily for work.) I come to find that when uploading settings, the same error happens! There wasn't anything I was doing on my Macbook that should cause that issue as it was working two days ago when I uploaded my settings.

Before disconnecting, the CS agent tried doing all sorts of setting changes with permissions (this wasn't an issue 2 days ago), even going as far as enabling my root user. Weirdly, when I did log into my root user, I was able to sync my settings, but am unsure of what to do now.

I don't want to make a whole new user account to resolve this. I don't want to have to stay on the root account (security risk), and I find it so hard to believe that two DIFFERENT machines on two DIFFERENT accounts had the same issue that cannot easily be resolved. Is there something I am missing? Something I should do in my root user account to fix these permissions? It's going to be a hassle explaining to IT why they need to log into my Mac's root account to fix this weird issue on my Adobe account. Customer service was less than useful here, and I hope I'm not the only one experiencing this odd issue.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This started working again for me after I updated to version 24.2

But... seems to have stopped working with 24.2.1

This issue continues for me. Once worked great. Now (for a year) doesn't.  I teach PP as well and I have to tell students now this feature doesn't work. Helpful when it works, yet it doesn't so now one wastes time trying to solve or workaround manually. Just saying...

I'm having the same problem. Very frustrating. I've gone taken all the same measures and the problem persists. Just upgraded to Premier 2024 and that didn't fix it either.

I never did find a solution. Adobe support spent hours with me, but I just gave up (I couldn't keep wasting time). Curious though, did you adjust your keyboard layout immediately before this started happening?

Hi,
I have the same issue.
Did you find a workaround for this issue?
I tried to clean the Sync folders in the user library:

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SynKit

Then the sync was working once.

I understand how frustrating something can be that doesn't work the way it should... but how much time have you spent trying to solve this?  I'm a great believer in workarounds...  If you need help figuring out how to do this manually, post back...   and if you do figure out what's causing this, let us know...

Everything is set properly in the sync settings, and files are syncing properly. This issue is isolated to syncing preferences within Premiere Pro.

did you double check your creative cloud app preferences? especially syncing settings?

Yes it was one of first things I tried (and the tech agent too). If there are any engineers on here, one peculiarity I wonder about is an extra trailing dash on the cloud profile folder name, i.e. "Profile-CreativeCloud-". Seems odd.

Also the last two things I did before the problem started were: 1. change my keyboard shortcut for paste to same track BACK to the old default of paste to target track; and 2. delete an old keyboard layout off the list.

One other thing I noticed is after completely deleting Creative Cloud (including logging out) and then reinstalling such that all the settings are now default with no custom keyboards, the FIRST time I try to sync settings works, and I get my saved settings back, but SUBSEQUENT attempts to sync do not work.

There is something quirky about he data downloaded from the first attempt, that causes subsequent attempts to fail.

did you try to log out/in from your creative cloud app?
