Text-Based Editing Right-Click Menu is Completely Grayed Out & Unusable in Premiere Pro 25.X

Hello everyone,

I'm encountering a critical issue with the Text-Based Editing feature in Premiere Pro 25.0. The entire right-click context menu in the Text/Transcript panel is completely grayed out, making the feature unusable.

This happens when I select any transcribed text (not just pauses), as you can see in the attached screenshot. The feature was working perfectly one day and then suddenly stopped working the next.

The most critical piece of information is that this issue still happens even in a brand new, empty project with a completely new and simple media file (e.g., a short clip from my phone). This makes me believe the problem is not with my project file, but with the software's connection to my system environment.

Here are my system specifications and the troubleshooting steps I have already taken:

System Specifications:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Version: 25.0

  • Operating System: [Please fill in: e.g., Windows 11 Pro Version 23H2 or macOS Sonoma 14.5]

  • CPU: [Please fill in: e.g., Intel Core i9-13900K or AMD Ryzen 9 7950X]

  • GPU: [Please fill in: e.g., NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX]

  • GPU Driver Version: [Please fill in: e.g., NVIDIA Studio Driver 555.xx or AMD Adrenalin 24.x.x]

  • RAM: [Please fill in: e.g., 64 GB]

  • Source Media Type: My original media is a .MOV file from a Fuji camera, but the issue also occurs with H.264 .MP4 files from my phone.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken: I have tried to resolve this for hours and have already done the following:

  1. Confirmed Track Targeting: V1 and A1 source patching is correctly enabled (blue).

  2. Confirmed Media is Online: The media files are properly linked and not offline.

  3. Tested in a New Project: The problem persists in a brand new project with new, simple media.

  4. Changed Premiere Pro Versions: I updated to version 25.3, but the issue remained. I have since reverted to 25.0.

  5. Cleared Media Cache: I have deleted all media cache files through Preferences.

  6. Reset Preferences: I have reset the preferences by holding the Alt/Option key on launch.

  7. Tested with Different Media: The issue is not tied to a specific video file.

Despite all these steps, the context menu remains completely grayed out. At this point, I suspect it might be a deeper bug related to a recent OS or driver update, but I have run out of ideas.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for other things to try would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Ethan7586

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and thank you for reporting a problem.

Are you able to re-share you're screenshot so we can better understand what you are seeing on your end? It doesn't look like it was attached with your post. Could you also clarify your system and hardware specs?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani

"Hello, I found a critical bug in Text-Based Editing. The feature works perfectly with English transcripts, but the entire right-click context menu is grayed out and unusable when working with Chinese transcripts. This proves the issue is related to Chinese language processing."
