Text Drop Shadow - PP won't allow me to deselect shadow for a portion of text

when selecting portions of text i can select and deselct the color fill and it works accordingly, but when i try to add or remove drop shadow from a portion of text, it adds or removes all the shadow effect.

I think this is "as designed." Background and Shadow parameters cannot be applied to a sub-selection of a text layer. I suspect that this is because those parameters would have to intrude on another part of the layer. A workaround might be to put the sub-selection of text in its own layer.

 

The Guide document "Working with the style browser" has this:

"Note: Shadow and Background cannot be applied to sub-selections within a text. If adding a style to a sub-selection it will apply it while excluding Shadow and Background."

 

This is NOT discussed in the Guide document "Linked and Track Styles." (It should be.) It discusses only applying styles to layers, and not sub-selections of a layer. It does have a section - "What parameters are part of the style when applying as a Linked style or Track style?" - that makes it clear that not all parameters can be applied in a style. But Background and Shadow can be applied to a layer - just not to a sub-selection.

You might need more than one layer on the graphic to get that.
