Timecode effect not working

The Metadata and Timecode Burn-in effect isn’t working as it should. It’s been this way for a view versions now.

Ingest 4K footage into Premiere
Create a 1080 sequence and drop the 4 footage into that sequence. Scale the footage to fit.
Add the Metadata & Timecode Burn-in effect to the clip
The timecode window should be on screen, but it isn’t. Playing the clip will reveal it however. It should be there regardless of playback status.
Exporting the clip with the effect will create a clip with NO timecode window.
Adding the effect to a 4K clip in a 4K timeline does work.

I’m having a similar issue. I have a timeline with the effect applied to multiple clips and some places with only a single clip. I can see all the applied timecode effects when scrubbing through the timeline. But they disappear on pause and do not appear in any exports. They are still missing if I render the timeline.
A similar behavior happens when I load the timeline in Media Encoder, I can see the timecode info in the preview window in the export settings window, but it doesn’t appear in the export.

What is the exact Premiere version you’re using?
Please specify Windows or macOS, along with the version.
- GPU Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.

For additional context:

Does it affect all projects or only some?
Does it affect new, empty projects?
Was there a time it worked as expected on your system?

What is the exact Premiere version you’re using?

25.6, but I saw it in the last release version (26.3.2) as well. I believe I may have seen it in even earlier versions of 2026

Windows 11...I’ll have to check on the Nvidia drivers, but I don’t think that’s the issue as I’m seeing the same issue on my Windows 10 laptop with a different NVIDIA card.

Does it affect new, empty projects?

Yes

Was there a time it worked as expected on your system?

Yes, in previous versions it worked as it should.

Hi @EAddison,

Thanks for the follow up! Good news, I was able to reproduce this occurrence.

However, the Metadata & Timecode Burn-in may be there but off screen. Let’s try this:

After applying the Metadata & Timecode Burn-in effect, please go to the effects control panel,
Then adjust the x/y position.
(Enlarging the scale just to see where the Timecode is can be helpful too.)

Is the Metadata & Timecode Burn-in effect there? Please let us know when you have a chance.
