Timeline Interaction Lag on Upper Video Tracks with Large Number of Cuts
Hi everyone,
I’m currently editing wedding videos in Premiere Pro 2025, and I noticed something that feels a bit unusual, so I’d like to ask if this is normal behavior.
My workflow usually involves a lot of cuts on Video Track 1 (around 100–200 cut-to-cut clips from the wedding footage). Playback and rendering are totally fine, no major issues there.
However, the problem appears when I import and place a new asset (PNG image or even another video) on Video Track 2, 3, or 4. When I try to drag or trim that clip (especially dragging it to the left, over areas where Track 1 is very dense), the timeline interaction becomes very laggy and heavy.
Interestingly:
- The same clips are completely smooth on Video Track 1
- If I delete or reduce some of the wedding clips on Track 1, the lag becomes much less noticeable
- Playback and export remain fast and stable; the issue is mainly during timeline interaction (dragging/moving clips)
This made me wonder:
Is this expected behavior in Premiere Pro when working with very dense timelines, or could this be a performance/engine limitation in newer versions (2025+)?
System specs:
- Premiere Pro 2025
- RTX 4050
- Intel i7-13650HX
- 28 GB RAM

(For better clarity, I’ve attached a screen recording link as visual proof of the issue. The video clearly shows the timeline lag occurring on upper video tracks while Track 1 remains smooth.)
I’d really appreciate any insight from Adobe staff or other editors who experienced something similar. Thanks!
