Timeline won’t stop playing?!?

Hello,

I’m having an issue where my timeline will not stop playing. Sometimes it takes a few seconds, sometimes it takes minutes before it actually pauses.

The problem seems to show up once I start applying effects, everything is smooth when it’s just the raw footage.

It’s becoming unworkable and it’s driving me crazy. I’m honestly close to switching everything to Resolve.

I’m on a high-end Windows machine with 96 GB of RAM, so I know it’s not the PC. Nvidia drivers are fully up to date.

Things I’ve tried:

Converting iPhone footage to CFR ProRes 422 LT
Using half-resolution proxies
Launching without third-party plugins
Resetting preferences
Clearing/deleting cache
Turning Mercury Transmit on and off
Rendering all effects

If I close and reopen Premiere, it works for a few minutes, and then the issue comes back.

I also tried deleting certain effects to see if one of them was causing it, but it didn’t help. I have a lot of Constant Power transitions and zooms applied.

Thank you for reporting a problem and sorry you've been experiencing issues. We need a few more details, like Premiere Pro version you are on and hardware specs (CPU, GPU model, etc).

Where is your media and project stored?

When this behavior starts, are you able to click on or interact with any other panels or windows in Premiere Pro or does it become unresponsive until playback stops?

You mentioned issues started once you began applying effects, have you tried the Global FX Mute button? You can add it in the Program monitor panel, it could help narrow down.
