Unsuably slow

Instead of letting me work faster, each new version of Premiere slows me down. Previous version was bad, but it's worse now.
Sometimes it doesn't react. When I click on the buttons, or move the cursor the graphic feedback is there but the action is not performed. It's delayed a lot. The playback takes minutes to begin after I hit PLAY, and minutes to stop when I hit STOP, even when I switch to other apps, it keeps on playing in the background until I close the app.
If I wait long enough to see it work, it's fine for a while, but if I hide a track it becomes unresponsive again when I try to play. And the same when I show the track again.
I hide and show tracks all the time while editing, so this makes any simple edit ridiculously long.

I have a 1920x1080 timeline with two video tracks active (one 1920x1080 and one 3840x2160), about 80 minutes long, with total of 3 audio tracks. A very simple project. I'm using Quicktime prores 422 LT proxies at 1/2 resolution, but it really doesn't help.
I tried the usual fixes: 1/4 quality view, proxies, low quality previews, separate scratch disks, no audio hardware input, importing into new project, clearing caches... nothing helps. What's going on? Are they optimizing the app for Windows 11?

I'm using v 25.5.0 (build 13) on a Windows 10 PC with plenty of scratch drives:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7820X CPU @ 3.60GHz
Installed RAM: 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)
Storage: 3.64 TB HDD WDC WD4005FZBX-00K5WB0, 1.82 TB SSD CT2000MX500SSD1, 119 GB SSD M4-CT128M4SSD2, 7.28 TB HDD WDC WD8001FZBX-00ASYA0, 466 GB NVMe Samsung SSD 960, 233 GB NVMe Samsung SSD 960
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8 GB)

I updated to version 25.6.3 Build 2, and nothing improved.

This is very frustrating, simply dragging the head can trigger a freeze that lasts a good while. Wasting my time.

And the price for my subscription is going up. I'm looking for alternatives.

I had those options off in the media analysis preferences. But following your advice to clear the cache didn't help, it took several minutes to prepare the audio and relink the media, then after a few minutes of editing the behavior was the same, freezing the program window, not responding to stop button...

When this happens I notice that the original media disk (Disco 4) is very busy, and the CPU is working more than idle.

What is it doing in the background that keeps the program from responding? It should be working with the proxies.

Hi @Harryscopic -

The high system usage you’re seeing is expected while the new Visual Analysis feature runs in the background. This process is designed to fully utilize available system resources to complete the analysis as quickly as possible.

If you begin playback or interact with the timeline, the analysis will pause to ensure smooth performance, and then resume once the system is idle again. Once the analysis completes, system usage should return to normal.

Can you navigate to your preferences under Media Analysis & Transcription then uncheck everything.  After that close Premiere then reopen and hold down "SHIFT" while launching Premiere and check the boxes
"Clear media cache files"

This should prevent media analysis from running.

I tried resetting the preferences, but the behavior hasn't changed.
I did notice something different. With the preferences reset, I could see the progress dashboard:

With my normal preferences this window appears empty.
Anyway, something's going on there because the CPU is vey busy and the memory access to the original media files is intensive. I have the proxies on another disk, why is it accessing the original videos if I'm using proxies with watermarks?

The update didn't help, nor did clearing media cache.
I hate to mess with the preferences, but I'll have to try that next.

Hi, all drives are NTFS.
I hadn't noticed there were updates, I'll update my apps now.

Hi @Harryscopic - What is the format of your drives that your footage is on?

Can you try installing Premiere Pro version 25.6.2

Can you try and hold down "SHIFT" while launching Premiere and check the boxes
"Reset app preferences" (Backup Preferences first)
"Clear media cache files"
"Reset plugin loading cache"
"Disable third-party plugins (one-time only)"
