URGENT BUG - Setting the RATING changes the video file modification date on disk

Changing the video file's RATING inside Premiere Pro's Project panel changes the video file's MODIFICATION DATE on disk.

This is completely messing up workflows relying on this data and there is no need for this because the RATING is a Premiere internal metadata, doesn't make sense that this would make any change to the file on disk.

Too bad there is no visual star based rating system inside Premiere's internal metadata system.. maybe I'll submit a feature request for this.

The Rating is part of the XMP metadata stored with each media asset (and not specific to a given PPro project); those changes will necessarily change the media file's modification date.

If you import media from a read-only directory, PPro will store media-specific metadata (like Rating) in the project file.

However, that introduces a worse problem; you will now have different media-specific metadata in every project that includes that media.

Hi @GEdit, I believe what you're seeing is not a bug but a side effect of how the XMP metadata system works.

The "Rating" field is not part of the Premiere Pro Project Metadata schema. You're correct that if it were, this would be a bug. That metadata is stored only in the project file.

However the Rating field is part of the "Basic" schema, which uses XMP to store the metadata with the media file, not the project file. For some media formats, that means a .xmp sidecare file will be written. But some media formats support writing the XMP metadata directly into the file, and for those that will update the Date Modified on disk.
