VR toggles on for automatically when exporting mp4s

  • Issue – I have a timeline with a 4096 × 2048 (2:1) aspect ratio. It's widescreen, not 360. But everytime I export the VR setting in the export window or in Media Encoder defaults to checked whn I export a mp4. If I export a .mpv this does not happen but when I add that .mov to Media Encouder and change to export an mp4 I have the same problem. It also happens if I resize the sequence to 1920x960. If I uncheck the box, it comes back on the next time I export.
  • Steps to reproduce export a 2:1 aspect ratio timeline to mp4.
  • Expected result a video with a 2:1 aspect ratio
  • Actual result a video tagged as VR
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version – 25.2.3
  • Operating system – Mac OS 15.5
  • Video format –  4096 × 2048
  • Comparative information happens ever time I export a 2:1 aspect ration video

@IanB_360 Yes I do not want VR and my files are intermittently being tagged as so. I've idedified a few of the issues )1 is "Video is VR button" toggles on 2) with export of .mp4s - I uncheck everytime and never select this option as I am not (and never have) worked on a VR project.

The issue is with the export OR Encoder step and as best I can tell only effects mp4 exports (not .mov)

-What I tested was exporting directly from PP (not quick export) and when I export a QT the VR setting isn't activated

-If I export as an .mp4 the VR button gets activated automatically. If I uncheck the box it just re-activates the next time I export.

So I tried exporting as a .mov and then using Encoder to make my .mp4 and I have the same issue as when I export to .mp4 directly from PP.

Opening the QT from the computer it plays back normal but when uploading to Vimeo it gets streched and Vimeo has removed user ability to toggle VR on/off for some inexpicable reason (they told me it's becuase people wanting VR were getting confused).

I've tried exporting at different resoltions and always get the same result so it seems to be related to the 2:1 aspect ratio of the sequence.

So it seems to be an issue with Encoder - but happens both if "I send to Encoder" or just select export in PP.

______________As happy as a clam in butter sauce!

Hi @Kyle Kramb

and welcome to the Premiere Pro Forum community.  Thank you for taking your time to report a problem. So you are saying that the export is resulting in a VR export even when you do not want it too correct? If you start a new project or sequence and then try to export do you get the same result?
