When I export a clip in Premiere, once the process is finished, the Program Monitor and Source Monitor panels automatically close.

When exporting individual clips in Premiere Pro, once the export is complete, both the Source Monitor and Program Monitor panels close automatically. After that, the panels become unusable and cannot be restored from the workspace settings. The only way to get them back is by restarting Premiere Pro.

As sort of noted in Rach’s post, if your Program monitor is not on the main Premiere ‘window’ ... there can be issues. I will add, if the main Premiere window is not on the screen your UI sees as the main user ‘home’ screen, there can be issues.

That said, I typically have the Source monitor on my #2 screen, to the left of the main one in front of me ... in a custom panel group with the Production panel and Projects opening in the Production panel ... and in most workspaces, the Effects panel in it’s own segment of that customized panel group ... and the Source monitor is always just there and doesn’t close.

Another thing to know though is any panels/panel groups on a secondary monitor ... can not touch one pixel onto the main screen!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!! …. or Bad Things happen. Panels and panel groups on secondary screens must have at least a one-pixel clear background border around them on that screen.

    Everyone's mileage always varies ...

    Hi @e_dobryden

Thanks for reaching out. A couple of quick questions that would help narrow this down:

    - Are you on a single monitor or multiple monitors set up?
    - Are the Program Monitor and Source Monitor docked within the main Premiere window, or are they floating on a separate screen?

This behavior can be related to the panel layout when panels are undocked or on a secondary display. In the meantime, rather than restarting Premiere each time, try Alt+Shift+0 (Windows) or Option+Shift+0 (Mac) to reset to your saved layout — this should bring the panels back without closing the project.

Could you also let us know what version of Premiere and OS you are on?

Sorry for the frustration. I hope this helps.
