Needs More Info

When Sequence > Zoom In is assigned to the "A" key (no modifiers) in Keyboard Shortcuts, the timeline zooms in on its own while I drag a clip on the timeline.

1. Open Keyboard Shortcuts and assign "A" (no modifiers) to Sequence > Zoom In.
2. Open a sequence and drag any clip along the timeline with the Selection Tool.
3. The timeline zooms in during the drag.

Expected: The timeline zoom level should only change when the shortcut key is actually pressed.

What I tested:
- With "A" removed from Zoom In, the same drag doesn't zoom. The issue comes back as soon as "A" is reassigned.
- "A" has no other unmodified assignment, so there's no shortcut conflict.
- Adding a second shortcut to Zoom In didn't help.
- Removing Shift+A from Track Select Backward Tool didn't help.

-Adding another Zoom In shortcut other than ‘’A’’ worked but i prefer ‘’A’’

I use "A" for Zoom In in my daily editing, so I'd like to keep this mapping. Could you please look into it?

Thanks.

    Hi @KatieToo

Version is 26.5.2 (Build 5), Mac M5 chip.

Let me show you a video about it.

@Berk34173140mq2x Thanks for that screen recording and additional details. Yes, I see it is zooming in when you’re dragging clips to other tracks. Feels like something is interfering or thinking the “A” is being triggered, so wondering what else could be affecting that.

When the zooming begins, does Premiere appear to be receiving repeated A-key presses, or does it only occur while actively dragging clips in the timeline? Try testing to see if it does.

A couple questions that may help narrow this down more:

    • If you temporarily change "Timeline Zoom In" from A to another key, does the issue disappear?
      • What if you restore it back to default, for that matter?
      • Is anything else assigned to A in your keyboard shortcuts?
    • Are you using any keyboard/mouse customization tools such as Logi Options+, BetterTouchTool, Karabiner, Keyboard Maestro, Stream Deck, Wacom drivers, etc.?
    • Does launching Premiere with Shift and temporarily disabling plugins change the behavior?

Let’s see the results from this and go from that point. Sorry you’re having this issue!

    Hi @Berk34173140mq2x

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums! Could we get a bit more details about your setup and which Premiere this “A” zoom in shortcut issue is happening in? We ran a quick test in the latest v26.5.2 by setting that shortcut and dragging clips in a sequence, and it was behaving as expected so we might be missing something else here.

    • Premiere Version: What is the exact Premiere version and build you’re using? Help > About Premiere or Premiere > About Premiere.
    • Setup/OS: Please specify Windows 11/10 or Mac, plus what macOS, along with driver version/build.
      • GPU Driver version/build(Windows only): We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.
      • Mac Chip (Mac Only): what M-series chip? If Intel, please include GPU.
    • Media Files: video, images, etc. and what types (can check under Media Properties)
    • Media Storage: Are your Scratch Disks set to your Documents folder or the same as project, and is this the same as the Media drive?

Also, if you could please let us know the following, this is also helpful to know:

    • Does it affect all projects or only some? What about new projects with a few sample clips?
    • Do you recall which Premiere this was last working in, and what might have changed? Any plugins, update to computer, etc.
    • When did the problem first begin?

Screen Recording: If possible, include a recording of your screen showing the issue as that’s usually very helpful and lets us see exactly what might be happening.

    We hope to help!
    Katie
