Whenever I open a project after a few days, only one camera file will be displayed as "Media Offline". When I delete it, I can not import it again. If i try to import the clip in Premiere 25 it works without issue.

When I work on a project and come back to it after a few days, one seemingly random video file will be displayed as “Media Offline”. (I did not move the file or modify it).
When I delete the file out of my project and try to import it again, I get an error window “File Import Failure, The importer reported a generic import issue.

When I open any Premiere Pro Version before the 26 Version, I can import the video without issue and it will never be displayed as offline.

This has now happened in all of my V26 projects and I have not found a solution.

    Hi @Julia Oswald,

Thanks for ryour message. As Ann mentions, it is worth trying resetting preferences and clearing all media cache first if you haven't already.

Is the “random” always the same format/ codec?  Does this always happen in the same project or has it happened in different projects?  We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see: How do I report a Problem?

Sorry for the frustration, and thanks for reaching out.

I’ve experienced this problem with .r3d, .mov files as well as .mxf files.
As mentioned, in the previous Premiere Version this has never been an issue before, so my first step was try to clear out the media cache, but it did not change anything for me.

This issue has also appeared for me in different Project files that I have created.

The first time I experience this issue, I created a new project file, copied my timeline and all assets, pasted them into the newly created Project file and everything worked again (no media was shown as offline).

When I reopened the project file the next morning the same video file was shown as offline again.

So far across 4 different projects, each had a video file being displayed as offline. All of the video files I’ve used had been created at different points in time, by different cameras.

I also tried uninstalling and re-installing Premiere 26.
My company is working with MacOS on the Premiere Version 26.0.2

    Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the additional detail, that really helps. The fact that this is happening across different codecs, cameras, and projects is useful to know.

    A couple more questions:

    - Are the files stored locally, on a network, or on an external drive?
    - Is there anything you can notice in common about the specific files that go offline — file size, duration, folder location?
    - Can you share a screen recording of the files offline and what happens when you try to reimport that clip?

I hope we can get to the bottom of this.

Did you try resetting preferences and trashing all media cache?

Yes, that was the first thing I’ve tried. Unfortunately the error message still appeared and the file is offline.
